free mpc2000xl tech help

so my roommate just brought home a mpc2000xl in pieces and gave it to me. some guy had gone into his store and gave it to him. anyways the thing is a pos, it is just all **** up, and someone did a horrible paint job on it with a paint brush. lol.. I have never messed with a 2000xl before. I finally got everything all hooked up, and replaced the fuse in the power supply cause the old one was blown. When I power the mp up all the leds stay on and the screen is black with pixels. can anyone suggest anything??? my instinct wants to say motherboard, but again ive never messed with a 2000xl.. any help would be greatly appreciated.

damn, really?? nobody has ever had all leds come on and the screen be totally black??? if you aint got a floppy drive hooked up in ur 2000xl will it do this?? cause it has no floppy yet. but i wanna make sure what the problem is before I buy it..

Perhaps nobody has answered you since you were posting around the holidays.

It's hard to diagnose what may be wrong with it, since you did not post a whole lot of information to go on. Are you 100% certain all the cables are plugged in properly? Are you getting the correct DC voltages out of the power supply? Did you inspect any of the boards inside for obvious damage -- i.e. burnt traces, spilled liquids, rust?

Depending on what is actually wrong with the MPC, it may not be worth repairing. Unless you are taking parts from a donor machine, replacement parts such as motherboards and LCDs are hard to come by and expensive when they are available.

yea, the thing is in pieces. but ive got everything hooked up except the floppy drive. when the machine powers on all leds are lit up and the screen is completely black, but yea, i know what ur saying about not worth it. only burnt think i came across was the power supply fuse it was black and burnt out. i replaced it.

open it back up and check the ribbon from screen to board. mine was loose once from being dropped and i snugged the cable into its slot and bam worked right away. same symptoms as you are having it seems. if that doesnt work, contact vstservices and send it to them and either fix it or sell it. ya know.

tried it, not it. by the way, the thing is in pieces. i have everything hooked up. i dont thing its worth sending into vst. maybe i'll save it as parts if i cant fix it.

bad mobo, same things goin won with my 2k classic. Thers a shoirt soewhere, pretty common problom with dismantkled mpcs too

lol. yea, i was thinking motherboard too. the thing probably got shorted. the damn thing came to me in pieces. sum retard painted it with a brush or something. lol. some people.. oh well. hahah
