MPC 2kxl Pad Response Settings

Hello, Im new to the forum, upgraded to an MPC 2000xl about a week ago from MPK49 midi controller and reason, before that I was in the realm of fl studio. Have spent the last week setting it up and now am able to sample from my turntable through my vmx300 mixer. This forum seems to be full of helpful info, and tons of it! I look forward to getting to know you. I have browsed a bit but have not been able to find an answer to my question, so here it is:

Within the program parameter settings I have found the pad response settings (Poly, Mono, Note-off). When working in reason on my MPK, there was a setting for pad response very similar to MONO on the MPC, where the note silences itself when hit repeatedly, but in reason the setting allowed OTHER pads to silence each other as well, as opposed to each pad silencing itself, but overlaying sounds on other pads. Sort of funny wording, but I hope that makes sense. In the reason sampler (dr.rex) there were some settings that needed to be changed to allow this pad response option, so I am HOPING (as this was an awesome setting and the one I used 99% of the time) there is a way to do it on the MPC.

In the "Overlap:" field... highlight the setting and press the Open Window button. There you'll find the option to make one pad mute 2 other pads of your choice. If I read the question correctly, this is what you're lookin for.

There is a way to do this in the xl, but it is not as advanced as many modern samplers today. In a nutshell, you can have two pads muted/mute other pads, but there are no 'groups' like is handy nowadays.

If you hit the open window button on the mono/poly/note off setting, you will get more settings to make. I cannot remember if you set here which pads mute that pad, or set which pads the current pad mutes...that is a good excuse to download the manual, because it will explain it in greater detail than I can offhand remember.

Or just try it...hit that open window button and start playing around.

I would try hitting that button more often, you will find much more control than you are currently aware of.

Also keep in mind that while more modern samplers generally treat parameters as they relate to sounds, the MPC generally treats parameters as they relate to pads...the idea being you can swap out the base sound and still retain the settings for that pad.

In this case, it helps to notice that you are setting which pads mute which pads...not which sounds mute which sounds.
