Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

What's up folks.

A few months ago I went from using a Korg Padkontrol with a laptop to an MPC. MPC's I prefer, as they're stand-alone pieces that I can just lug to a show and play w/o dealing w/ many cables or anything of the sort.

But one thing I miss about the Padkontrol is that I could alter the attack of a sample so that it would play only for as long as I'm holding the button. How could I do this on an MPC? For example, let's say I have a break loop button and I assign it to a particular button, but I only want it to play while I'm holding down the drum pad.

Also, the way it is now, I can press a button 4 times real fast and the sound will play 4 times fast. Is there any way to make it so that if the sound is still playing front he 1st press, that it'll stop for the 2nd press, and so on? An example of this would be taking that same break and pressing the button quickly just so the kicks play as opposed to having 4 crazy, out of beat breaks playing simultaneously.

Thanks folks

Yes you can do all of that.

It's in the program edit menu, hit the pad you want, and under the 'overlap' setting change the mode between poly, mono, and note off.

pg 126 of the manual
POLY -Multiple plays of the sound are assigned to additional voices, allowing
polyphonic overlap. This is useful for sounds like ride cymbals, for which
you don’t want new notes to cut off by old ones.

MONO -Multiple plays of the sound use the same voice, terminating the previous
sound and restarting playback of the sound (no polyphonic overlap). This
is useful for producing stuttering effects.

NOTE OFF -When the pad is released (or a MIDI Note Off message is received), the
sound is terminated. When the Dcymd: field is set to END, the loop on
sound is set to this mode.
