Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Other than the EB16 effects card, are there any external effects units recommended by anyone to use with the mpc2000. Also, I have the 1.0 operating disc which apparently does not support the EB16 but I have a 1.72 disc too, will it be compatible with that? I just want some crazy s**t effects at a good price.....

the eb16 comes with distortion, filters, reverb, echo, a couple other things I can't remember cuz I don't use.. but that's all you really need. the only other thing is the mfc42, but that's just more fancy filters..

For external effects it depends what sort of results you want. Alesis & Zoom both make good, cheap multi-effects units. Even little pedal effects for guitars can be good. Have you got the extra outputs fitted on your MPC though? A chorus or phaser might be good just on hi-hats, a bit of distortion on snares & a massive reverb on a crash cymbal but none of these effects will be much good over your entire track. Also it helps if you've got a mixer with effects send & returns to really get proper use from an external box.
