MPC pad question

I have just purchased an mpc 2000. It's in perfect condition with 1.72 of the OS. I have never used a sampler. I am not a complete noob. I did read the manual, followed the instructions and loaded up the standard set of sound onto my mpc. However when I hit the pads nothing happens. Can anyone help me with this problem?

you have to assign the samples to the pads
press shift + 6 to enter program mode
then highlight the correct field in the menu and press a pad to assign the desired sample
(create a program)
can't remember at which page in the manual

yeah but the pads are already assigned. Do you have any other ideas. I have the power cable. Do I need anything else?

audio cables or headphones?

yeah to start turn on the full level button and plug in a set of headphones. maybe your sensors are dead but that doesn't seem likely.
