Howdy
i was wondering if anyone uses a SCSI external HD for their samplers and can share their thoughts. I'm thinking of going this route, but want to get some more input on them. my plan is to leave the bulk of my material on an external HD and possibly swap my internal zip for a card reader. my zip disks are getting old and just have been quite unreliable. :?
im curious to know which brands to look for for a scsi external HD. there are many online, ebay etc... but just need to be pointed in the right direction. im guess the hard drive must be scsi ID -5 since thats what the MPC recognizes, but thats just a guess.

I got an old external Lacie 9 GB SCSI HD for my 2000XL. I use it every once in awhile and it's way faster than Zip or my card reader. If you've tried to price them nowadays they are quite expensive since they are getting rare. If you can find one cheap, go for it and get it.
IMHO... Best thing to do is replace the Zip with a card reader and save your samples to a Computer with a card reader slot... and back up your sample library! 8)

thanks man. i found a 9.1 GB one online for $150 which i think im going to get. the internal card reader though is so hard to find. IISDMC, atapi/IDE, scsi, searching all over the place for something with no luck. I know there are many out there that are only like $30, but if went that route id probably have to do some custom modding... also all the searches ive found on the this specific subject the threads are like 3 to 5 years old and most of the links in those threads pointing you to a compatible reader is gone. so, i think thats telling me that im just way behind in the whole storage legacy process...

when you say this do you back up your samples are you on a PC? is it only your samples? do you save PGM data/SEQ data on your computer? whenever i do this something always bound to happen or is this just a dreaded ZIP thang? sorry for all the Qs, but anyways thanks for the info Juke!

yo all
my search is getting me no where. searching keywords -
-mpc 2000xl ext. HD
-external HD mpc 2000xl
-9gb scsi hard drive
-scsi hard drive
-mpc storage

im finding stuff thats ridiculously priced or old internal drives where i have no clue if they would work with a 2kxl. am i doing something wrong?

i went over to - http://www.mpc2000xl.com/storage.htm

and he says theres a list of compatible scsi devices some where on akai's website... this list has not been found. anyone? not asking for a spoon feeding here just info that i simply cant find...
