going to take out the RAM (left with 2MB) and swap the Zip with a floppy drive.

most Floppy drives go for around what it looks like $40 right? or should a old PC floppy drive work fine?

I would not bet that 'any old pc drive' will work. I cannot verify this as I ditched the floppy years ago, but that's just my assumption from dealing with samplers and how picky they can be regarding drives.

If you like the floppy style (1.44mb chunks, slow), but want more modern media, the HxC SD floppy adapter is a godsend. Look that up, I put one in my EPS and it saved the day.

^^^Nice definitely going to start researching and looking into that now for my EPS.

super easy to do

Nogginj, could the HxC SD Floppy Emulator be used with the MPC 2000 classic? If so how would it sit in the unit or would there be enough ribbon to have it hang outside of the unit. Nice video btw.

my guess is either he is trying to do the damu thing with the stock 2000... or he is trying to sell the machine stock and install the addons onto the stock XL he just bought on ebay?

This is not true.

I recently tried to get a floppy drive working in my 2KXL. I've tried two different floppy drives from a PC... one i had already, the other one i bought new just for this matter. Both drives didn't work (they worked fine in a PC).

A few days ago i got another 2KXL which came with a floppy drive. I swapped the card reader from the one i already had into the new one, and put the floppy drive from the new one (Akai floppy drive that came with the MPC) into the other. And guess what... works perfectly fine.

So no, not any floppy off a PC will work.

well ya not ANY floppy... it has to be a 4 pin Molex IDE, which plenty older PC floppy drivers are.

Both the floppy drives that didn't work met this criteria. I'm not trying to say no other floppy drives will work, but the two i've tried didn't...
