CF card - possible corrupt folder problem

sorry for the new topic but i have done a search and can't find anything specific enough...

i've had my card reader installed for a week or 2 and all's been going pretty nice. i've created about 6 folders so far within my root folder - these are all my 'beat' folders - containing samples, .APS , .ALL etc...

all working nicely and booting fine.

the exception is a folder i created (in exactly the same fashion) for my 909 samples. i figured i'd create a program, so went about loading all 64 samples onto pads in a way which suited my workflow... so far so good. I saved the result as a program (NOT as an .APS) , figuring i could just load that program into any of my other projects when i needed it, take what i need and then clear the rest of the pads before saving.

so this was working ok but now the folder '909 kit' seems to have corrupted in some way and i have no idea why - i can browse around all the other folders looking for sounds etc but when the cursor passes over the 909 folder the unit kinda locks up for a short while before i can move up or down to another beat folder.

so now i can't load my 909 samples into other beats - not the end of the world because all the other beats that i've added 909 samples to have been saved as .APS files so the 909 hits are all in there.

i guess i'm just puzzled as to why this has happened, and particularly beacuse the 909 folder is the 'odd one out' - it's just a sample bank to borrow from rather than a 'beat file'. i'm wondering if for some reason the mpc doesn't like the 909 folder because several of the file names contained in it are also found in other beat folders?

any help much appreciated, before i delete the 909 folder and start again.

Sounds like either your card is going bad or you've got a corrupt file in there. I think CF cards are pretty resilient (SD cards I've heard...and experienced...go bad a lot quicker), so it's more likely you've got a file goblin in there.

Get another CF card, copy the problem folder to it, and see if it works.

Did you download these samples off the internet? You know the internet is like the best way to get technology VD these days. Very likely the files are corrupt.

Also if you have used this card with a mac there is potential to have problems as the macs add some hidden files that make the mpc go wacky.

i just switched the mpc on and now i'm convinced the card is going bad - i just loaded one of my other beats (.APS + .ALL) and the sound is coming out all garbled... can't believe this sh*t

it's a sandisk ultra II which i thought was meant to be among the most reliable...

i've just plugged the bad card into my USB card reader and looked on the computer - it's telling me the '909 kit' folder is corrupted... when i then try to copy the other beat folders onto my computer it's then telling me it can't copy certain sounds within the folders as they are 'corrupt and unreadable'

the 909 samples came from a kit i purchased online waaay back and have been in constant use on my PC ever since without any issues... and i do mean PC as i don't own a mac

would a fake have worked error free for 2 weeks though before something like this? seems unlikely but i've no experience with CF cards...

It worked before, now it doesn't work. That sounds like a crappy card.
You said yourself it was supposed to be a reliable card. So if your 'reliable' card is not being reliable, doesn't that sound like a fake?

Where did you buy the card?

It really doesn't matter, if you've isolated the problem to the card, then get a new card from a reliable source. There are ways to tell if it's fake but I don't know personally. They are even posted in this forum.

Even if you did get your card from a reliable source, it could still have just gone bad. But if you tell me you got it off ebay I'm gonna bet it's a fake card.

this is not a problem at all. i have the same sounds in multiple folders and no problems.
