Saving problems... Help me out... anyone?

A couple of years ago I installed an internal card reader into my MPC2000xl. Recently, I've been having problems loading MIDI files (.MID). Just like most of you out there, I break up my instruments into different tracks. That way, it allows me to have more control during the mixing phase.

So instead of my instruments showing up in different tracks, the mpc puts all of the Midi files onto one track (track 10). Also, it changes the multi recording setup to MIDI device 1-16. So it looks like this:

Tr: 01-Track-01
S:MIDI: 1A-Device01

Tr: 02-(Unused)
S:MIDI: 2A-Device02

...etc

Instead of:

Tr: 01-Kick
S:Drum1 :OFF NewPgm-A

If anyone is familiar with this problem, let me know. If not, I'll elaborate some more. Maybe I'm making a stupid mistake somewhere. Typically when I save, I do it fast. So I might be accidentally pressing the wrong button or accidentally changing a preference with the wheel knob.

I hope that's the case. Don't think I can handle the reality that my equipment has run its course...

No promises, but it might be dependent on what 'format' you saved your midi files as.

If I remember correctly, MIDI FORMAT 0 puts everything in 1 track and FORMAT 1 keeps the tracks separate.

Good looking man. I ran a test and saved a MIDI file using both formats. As it turns out, saving a file using FORMAT 0 puts every midi file onto one track. I also read the manual to verify.

It's weird tho, because I never change this. It's automatically set at FORMAT 1 every time the window is opened. I'm also sure that my hand is no where near the wheel knob... We all know how sensitive or stubborn the wheel knob can be. Either way, I'll be more cautious.

I don't even see the benefit of using FORMAT 0, especially since we might be using more than 1 program to incorporate more sounds... Stupid, right??? Not to mention the benefit of having instruments on different tracks during mixdown...

Does anyone legitimately use this function? Maybe I'm missing something...
