Whut up fam?

So, I ordered a Moog Slim Phatty (Dope!) and Im going to be using my 2KXL as my midi controller/sequencer. The XL will work great for triggering notes, but the downside to not using a midi keyboard controller is that the XL has no pitch/mod wheels. I have half of that problem solved with a Moog EP-2 expression pedal, connected into the phatty's pitch cv input, and Im hoping to use the NV slider on my XL as my mod wheel...

Now, Im looking @ the midi implementation charts in the back of the XL and Phatty manuals. In the MPC sound generator section (pg.195), under control change, it shows that the cc#7 can be assigned to note variation slider, however, control change messages are only recognized, not transmitted. In the sequencer section (pg.196), it shows all control change messages are transmitted and recognized. From what Im understanding, the NV slider can transmit/receive data on cc#7, but I will need to assign cc#7 coming from the MPC to trigger the modulation amount function, which in the Phatty is cc#6 (pg.55). As a note, The manual describes a feature in the Phatty called pot mapping (pg.38) which allows me to change the cc# transmitted (and received???) by the modulation knob....

Is there a way to do assign a different cc# to the note variation slider in the XL (On the fly, not in step edit, lol)? Could I just program the modulation knob on the Phatty to cc#7 and highlight the amount button?Or will I have to use some kind of software (Im running Intel iMac, PT8 LE, Ableton Digi003R)?

Id be playing with it right now to figure it out on my own, but Im only an intermediate MIDI user and I dont have the Phatty yet (3 more weeks!!!). Thanks in advance.

The implementation chart says you can receive cc#7 data(As far as I remember that is Volume) with the MPCs sound generator. And a MPCs samples Volume can also be changed by assigning Velocity to the N.V. Slider and sliding it.. Same as 16 Pads mode.

The sequencer can record and send cc#1..127 data from/to external Midi gear. This includes cc#7 but doesn't help you anyways.

If you want to send cc#6 data from the MPC to the moog, you can insert them in step edit mode, which is pain or record
cc#6 data coming from another controller or software.

If the "pot mapping" feature enables you to send out cc#6 data from the moog to external gear you can record that to the MPCs sequencer. If that's correct you will need bidirectional Midi wiring.

Hope this helps, let us know your efforts/successes.

If it won't work with "pot mapping" get a MPD16 + PSU for cheap, its slider will allow you to send any cc# channel. Plus 16 additional pads.
