Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
Byill_head Mon Jun 28, 2004 2:52 am
I just bought a Akai MPC 2000xl Studio Plus , I am trying to connect it to my computer which has a Motu 2048 MK3 as a based Audio interface hard disk recorder, and running Midi multitrak Recording programs (Cubase SX 2.0, Sonar 3, Acid pro 4 and Cool Edit). I really don't know much a bout Midi connections and SMTP synchronizing. I couldn't find anyone who can help me in a step-by-step process.

Thanks

Make your life easy & don't worry too much about SMPTE. It is an old system for syncing multitrack tape machines to video & film. I'd be surprised to hear if anyone on these forums uses it.

Look at ( & join in with ) these recent threads on midi-syncing MPCs with computers:

I did my research on Midi Connections and SMPTE sync, read the manual too, I should say "its aint that easy" .... What is really the best way to connect and sync between the MPC and Computer...? I have a MOUT 2408 MK3 that supports SPMTE (LTC), S/PDIF, Word Clock, Audio wire, Optical and TDF..... :?

I'm trying to remember back to when I was using my MPC2000 with a borrowed Yamaha O3D digital mixer & a MOTU rack soundcard.......

The MOTU 2408 is just an audio interface, not a midi one (as far as I can tell from a spec sheet I've got) so what have you got to get midi in & out of your computer? If you don't have anything that is one major problem.......& easy to solve by getting one!
Syncing the MPC to the computer programs you want to run so they play in time will be via midi, so no midi interface = no syncing!!!! All the MOTU formats you mention are to do with digital audio systems ( although I've got to say I don't know what Audio Wire is ) & I guess you are going via analog from your MPC to the MOTU.

Is your MOTU 2408 connected to the computer yet & are you at least getting signals through it?

Thanx featherboy...I actully noticed this problem "MUTO 2408 dosent support MIDI" :? ...I can only SMPTE sync my MPC to the MOTU....so i got my self a MidiMan MidiSport 8x8/s interface..The problem now is that MOUT 2408 dominates, which means it dosent alow any other Sound Card to function on the PC, now I cant use Midi on my PC :? ....Did you face the same...?? What can I do now..?? :?

When I used a MOTU rack with it was with a Yamaha digital mixer but not a computer. The MOTU gave the mixer 8 or so extra inputs. The MPC was doing all the sequencing, including some automation of the mixer.

I'm now running a Mac G4. I've got a Midiman MidiSport 2x2 on one USB socket & an eMagic 6 in 2 out soundcard ( which came in a boxed set with Logic ) on another USB socket. I don't have problems with the two conflicting in any way.

How is your MOTU card connected to your PC? Is there a spare USB socket to connect the midi interface & have you got it to work if the MOTU is disconnected?

The MOUT 2408 problem is solved, it was an error… all I had to do is just reinstall the PCI-424 Card. My mistake was installing the PCI-424 expansion Card before installing the software drive, and that disabled the Sound and Audio Devices in the control Panel.. Corrected that by installing the drive program first then installing the PCI-424 expansion card later on… but I still have a problem with synchronizing MIDI between the MPC and my PC…
