Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

i have been reading around here on the forum and figured i'd sign up and start a thread since it seems there is plenty of knowledge flowing through this site :D my issue: i turn my mpc on, it goes through the mpc2000xl screen, the wait........., detecting memory........., then flashes the floppy options screen Imagefor a second and ends up here, frozenImage. nothing will respond at all. ive tried to remove ram, reseat ram, insert floppy with os.bin, nothing. from reading around i have come to the conclusion my boot rom needs flashed possibly from being corrupted...? any help is appreciated and any other info needed i would be glad to post. thanks

remove the ram entirely, try again... okay you wont be loading that 7 meg file on the stock 2 megs but anyways..

then if that doesn't help, remove the addons:

8 outs if you got it
the fx if you got that
the floppy
scsi devices
anything in the atapi/ide port

try booting again and see if it happens.

now if that doesn't do anything, make sure all cables and connections and connectors on the mother board are all properly seated and not loose. some times those things get loose over time due to expansion and contraction. it happens.

now try again...

if at this point it works again, then test the start up again after putting back in each thing so you can know which one may cause the issue...

if you still didn't find it, then maybe you are right about the eprom

though you could also try reinstalling the OS.

so i removed all the add-ons that i do have(only floppy drive and fx card) and ram, mpc still does the same process up until the freeze except with the floppy removed it skips over the disk options screen for obvious reasons. i cannot load the os from the floppy bc the mpc freezes. i am basically at the point where i will put the money into it to try to re-flash. i have found a link posted on this forum that seems to be what i need(Rohan has stated he also supplies these "recovery chips" but i have not received a reply from him and cannot pm him).
there are TWO chips i can buy though, boot rom v1.14 OR operation rom 1.1
if i were to guess i would go for the operation rom chip but im not for sure so any advice would help.
thanks mr_debauch for your reply so far:)

beats me man.. I wont give any advice on those chips because I never needed to look into that...

but, wait a sec... I know it freezes but maybe try and go through with reinstalling the OS anyways... doesn't the computer boot off the floppy when doing that?

i guess i could keep trying a couple more times to boot from floppy but once it freezes up, nothing can be done and it doesnt seem to want to boot from floppy before freeze. maybe i will try a couple dif. floppies in case the one i have isnt good. hopefully i can get enough info so i dont have to drop double the $ to get both chips if i only need one.

It's been awhile since I had used floppies on my 2KXL, but that picture doesn't look right for booting from the floopy though it shows SCSI 5 and Type:?????????. :?
When you reboot and it gets to that screen again, can you press the "SETUP" button and change the primary device to "Floppy"?
When mine freezes up, I keep hitting either the "OPEN WINDOW" or "MAIN SCREEN" button to unfreeze it. 9/10x it works for me.
