1000 to 2000xl transitioning

What’s up y’all I just got an mpc 2000xl switching from the 1000. And I was wondering if there’s a way to have it so when your on the pads when you hit on pad it cuts off the other pad. On the 1000 you can make the whole program mono/poly. But all i’ve seen so far on the 2000xl is making individual pads mono/poly but that means they only cut off themselves. Thanks for the help

push open window everywhere... eventually you will find the pad mute screen where you can have two other pads mute the current one.

there is no mute group and there is no mono for the whole program... however there is a work around. if you have a blank sample (a 0.000001 of a second sample that is almost muted) you can then make that pad mute other pads... so you can use it as a sneaky pad muter.

good luck... on the bright side you got nice full sized pads. I also really like the xl workflow.

Yea man I still have my 1000 but I use this instead bc I love the pads and workflow

honestly, I dont blame you at all. Most people on here see that as going backwards however I can totally understand the preference.

I like the workflow of the xl a lot, it is right to the point... it has visual features, it has both numeric and visual chopping, it has good pads, and the xl doesn't take up much space.

Yea definitely I'm completely satisfied w my change. Only thing that sucks right now is saving. I ordered some zip drives online so until they come I'm suck w these floppy disks so I pretty much can't save anything right now

why not? floppies still work. okay you are down to 1.4 megs however that is HUGE for just a few small samples.

my mpc only has about that amount of ram in total! hahaha.

Lol but how do you save a beat w that little space?

Sell them both and get the 2500 = best of both worlds.

What are the differences between the 1000 and 2500?

ha, well once you do it... you realize it works. It takes a bit more effort and you cant just loop a 4 bar sample with added drums. you gotta chop and remove everything you dont absolutely need to save space.


I suggest you check out damu the fudgemunk on youtube. The dude has a 2000 classic (non xl) with no upgrades (only 2 mb of ram with the floppy drive)


also, the 2500 is the same as the 1000 but with more individual outputs, full sized pads, tilt screen, and a few other physical features... the software is basically the same and the internal specs I gather are the same as well.

Lol yea man I was spoiled w the 1000 memory using a 4 gb scandisk. But I'll definitely use your technique to help adjust.

And yea I know damu he's dope as shit I never knew his used a basic ass 2000 though lol that makes him doper
