MPC2K SCSI ISSUES -_-

hi.


I have an MPC2000 with OS 1.72, 32 Mb mem and with scsi I/O.
I have via scsi a 100Mb Zip drive attached .
I am currently trying to recycle an older harddrive ( 9 gig 7200 Rpm. I cant remember the Manufacturer or model-I may have to rip it apart n find out if this is an issue) and use this Ultimately instead of the zip drive.... I am trying to hook both drives up at the same time. I can see the zip and drive but when i try to format the HD i am getting some bullisht on screen and the MPC is crashing.

I am aware of scsi ID conflicts et al and I am sure I have avoided any ID conflicts

I am wondering this..... IS there a list of compatible drives I can find so i can work out whether the drive I am using is worth persevering with.

Could the drive be too big for the MPC?


I am sorry if I have asked a dumb question or if it has been answered already.....I did a search but to no avail. So if the answer is here already then flame me and then point me in the rght direction.

I SOOO wanna get this happening!!

MPC2000 supports only scsi harrdisks up to 1 Gig.

So, I have to somehow find a SCSI drive 1 gig or smaller

( yeah right in this day and age)

or use an alternate loading system???

I use zip currently but that is like bullshit when playing live ( Loading a 32 mb Pgm is kaka in front of several hundred ppl....and fahgeddaboudit if you have dirty power!!!!!)

I use a Mac g4 OS9 in my studio? If I was to rock a CD reader on the back of the MPC and I invested in MPC PGM maker....how would I burn an AKAI CD successfully?

Can someone please point me to a link(s) that will help me?

I'm using it on OSX but I think there is an OS9 version. I only really use it myself to convert old MPC .snd format samples to a format the Mac can play but I know it works for making MPC PGM files.

Once you've made a bunch of these on the Mac you should just be able to drag & drop them to a CDR & then burn it.....don't forget to make sure the sounds are there too. I'm sure the MPC compatible CD ROM drives on JUKE 179r's link will be able to read it.

So...

i have borrowed a SCSI to Firewire converter....

Put a MPC formatted disk in the ZIP drive and saved a couple of sounds and a pgm onto the disk from within the mac.. ( Using MPC PGM maker Vs 1.2.2.)

The process worked fine on the MAC but I cant see the files from the MPC. Has anyone tried this routine here already??

Also, I have tried a few different ZIP disks and despite the different amount of partitions that each individual disk has... I only saw one volume mounted. And without multiple internal folders .

I am using OS9.2.2 . and I Have OS 1.72 on the MPC.

I've noticed this with Mac OSX. It only sees the first partition of an MPC formatted zip disc. What I do is have one MPC formatted zip disc with no partitions & just use that to transfer between the SCSI zip on the MPC & the USB zip on the Mac.

It does mean I have to load sounds & programs from partitioned discs onto the MPC, then save them to this unpartitioned disc before I can get those onto the Mac....but it isn't too much hassle.

When you save from an MPC to a zip it doesn't put things in folders the way you can on a Mac or PC, so you won't see folders when you look at that zip disc on a computer. What you should see are .snd (or .wav) sound files, the PGMs & individual midi files if you have saved sequences on their own - not as a song. Songs seem to be the one thing you save on the MPC that the computer doesn't read.

Thanks feather boy.... Yep the same applies to the PC OS also ( the 1st partition only thang.) I also believe you may get corruption in the Disk if you have several partitions. I dont know this for a fact tho...

I grok you on the folder issue... the MPC will be fairly basic as to its desktop structure...

I think my issue is I am using the OS 9 not X. From memory the finder leaves an invisibl file ( resource file perhaps?) that causes grief with the MPC.

I can get the zip mounted on the mac and see the files within ( I dont make songs on the MPC only sequences) It is then that the weirdness begins.... I am gonna try a stripped back xtension set and see iffa I cant get any joy....

I wonder, Slightly off topic, Where would I find info as to how the MPC OS is written as in what code atc.... I am wondering if it is possible to hack it?? Only 128 sounds in one load? Surely not!!

It is written in Assembler.

It's not really a matter of finding someone to do it, but rather having to paying them since these people are some of the highest paid in the industry.
