mpc 2000xl zip disk read error

hi, i am a longtime xl user. i have been using zip disks for way too long. i am upgrading to maschine soon.

BUT

last night, i got the ever so fatal disk read error. the album i am working on, i have double backed up everything, except this one song i got lazy on. sure enough, shit crapped out and i lost 2 days of sequencing, and also a new beat i made last week. all the sounds are backed up on my cpu, but i also lost an updated program file (the original program file is backed up, but a newer one with additional sounds is gone but again i have the sounds backed up so i could recreate the program if i have to)

i can get over the fact that i lost 2 days of sequencing and re-do that, but losing that new beat is harsh.


has anyone ever gotten a zip disk recovered from iomega? sh1t is ***400*** bucks. that is outrageous. but, i guess im considering putting it on plastic and paying for it slowly IF they can restore it right.

my concern is that obviously an mpc formatted zip disk is different from a regular pc used zip disk. one time years back, a friend put a zip disk i had mpc beats on into his pc and it fvcked it all up and infected half of the files.

if someone has restored an mpc zip disk from iomega successfully, please let me know. this really fvckin sucks. i am going to *triple* back up the rest of the album tonight, and i can't wait to finally upgrade, but in the meantime, this really hurts.

any help or advice or any other ideas to restore a disk much appreciated.

damn, this is the second case of this in about 48 hours.

its the zip rapture. they're all facing judgement.

personally, i would not waste my time/money hoping that iomega could fix it (that's a big IF in my opinion). i would instead devote that time to recreating the beat...if it's only a few days old surely you can get at it.

i actually talked to iomega just now and had the customer service lady ask a technician if theyve restored mpc 2000 xl discs before and she said they had. so that's at least better than just sending it in hoping for the best.

it's a tough call. remaking a beat is so frustrating though because you know that theres shit you initially did that was off the top and spontaneous that you'll never be able to duplicate, and trying to recreate spontenaity is the antithesis of spontenaity. i feel you though.
