I'm getting a MPC 2000 soon but i got some doubts

Hi all , i'm getting my hands on a MPC 2000 soon but i have some questions:

1st - The only upgrade the MPC has is the 32 MB , im wondering how unconvenient or hard is it to work with the 1mb floppys that existed back in my days , and if there is a more pratical solution around these problem.

2nd - Does this mpc have like a "song mode" where you can put the patterns in order?

i got the mpc2k aswell its a great machine. 32mb of ram is alot more sampling than u think. 1.44mb floppy's fit a good amount of samples based on the fact that they are in a mpc2000 friendly formatt, akai wouldnt make a machine that would be that hard to use.

The mpc2k does have a song mode though its not as good as some of the other mpc's but it still works.

Remember the 2k doesnt have effects unless u get the eb16 effects board.

If you want to just sample off records or sample off ur pc (pc sampling requires you to change the samples into 44.1kz wav)
then the 2k is great for that, the 16bit sound has some grit to it and gives your beats an oldschool feel.

The 2k can change samples in a few ways without having to use effects.

The frequence, reson, tune, attack, and decay.

Great machine i recommend it!

yes it has 16 levels


and yes you can filter the bass with a low pass filter WITHOUT the fx card. the fx card gives you an additional filter (3 band) distortion/gain, reverb, and more.... but the most important one (the LPF) comes stock.

yes it has a song mode, and it is simple, great, and easy to use for playing your sequences (patterns) in what ever order you want...

I've got 2 MPC 2000 classics as well, I'd say the 32 MB ram is essential, however there are lots of people out there making songs with the factory 2mb memory, for example is damu the fudgemunk.

AS a person who just got an MPC 2000 in the studio, I have some doubts? 1st I luv the mpc 60/mpc 3000 & even the 2000xl BUT this 2K is giving us problems. I got the download from akaipro.com for the boot floppy O.S. 1.72 but now i get a message that says (NO SYSTEM FILE) can someone please explain why this is happening, and or could some one recommend where to get the O.S. floppy boot up disk download(for free) besides akaipro(if that makes a difference)....Thanx

it doesn't make a difference, the one from akai pro works fine...

unpack the winrar file and put all the contents over onto a floppy dist... just drag and drop. I did that on a PC with windows vista using an iomega usb floppy drive.

Just scroll down the page and you'll see them, just past the Zip disks. We include two floppies, just in case.

We also offer storage upgrades for the MPC2000 Classic, in case you get tired of using floppies.

you'd be surprised how many people need that type of service. So many threads have been made asking for that boot disk... in fact charging that price is smart because then people will fork over the cash if it's absolutely necessary or they will get off their ass and make one if they have the ability to... the price tag prevents everybody from always asking.
