ah okay. well here is the basic run down
I highly doubt you have an internal hard drive. Drives such as hard drives, floppy disks, or compactflash readers are for storing samples and projects to use later on... next time you power the mpc up...
RAM (memory) which that MPC can have a max of 32 MB is the space you have for samples etc on your current project. That is where your stuff is loaded up to.
your options for saving your work are like I said: floppy disks, CF cards (the best and newest option), hard drives, zip disks (not very good because they tend to fail), and there are a few others which you likely will never encounter such as MO drives.
if you are running floppy disks, those are okay, but as you know, they are small. you can make them work, in fact after some practice you will learn how to save songs that span across several floppy disks though it can be complicated to do at first because you have to save each sound manually on various disks if there is not enough room on the first disk.
remember, each sample name (when you rename your sounds) should be less then 8 characters (letters, underscores, symbols) long. You should also read the manual which can be found on google.
I dont know exactly what your problem with the freezing is, but check back in this thread regularly and maybe somebody who has experienced that problem will post something that helps you. While you wait for that, try using the forum's search function, and browse through the 2000/2000xl section.
