Cant get floppy drive to work on my mpc2000

i have tried replacing my floppy drive on my 2000 classic twice now, but cannot seem to get it to work. i was wondering if a specific drive was needed, or one that has jumper settings? or maybe that my discs are just done in. All i get from the MPC is "Disk read error". any help would be great.

get your hands on a new (brand new) floppy disk and try and format, save, and reload data... does it give the error? I suspect the disks are old and worn out.

i have tryed old disks and new ones, but the floppy drive is trying to read them, it makes a load up noise etc. which makes me think that is could be that its the way im putting the system files on the disks.

Also I would suggest to check the data ribbon cable, lot of people mess the cable when they tried to fix something inside the machine, check if everything it is properly connected, I tried 3 different floppy drives in my 2K classic and all of them work perfectly, I'm pretty sure you don't need a special one for the MPC, just a known good working computer floppy drive.

I've replaced mine about four times. for some reason they kept going out but not it's fine go figure

...I'm having the same 'disk read error' too ...one suggestion was to check the ribbon cable to the floppy drive ...is it possible to change this ? ...Chris DVS
