Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I'm trying to run a second midi sequence on top of all my other sequences in song mode on my 2000xl. I've found the second sequence option and that seems to be what I should be using. What I'm trying to do is have one long midi file which controls lights playing on top of all the sequences for my song. Does this seem like the best option?

I'm also having trouble getting the midi files from ableton to the mpc. I export the midi file and transfer it to my cf card, but when I try to load the midi file on my mpc it gives me a "Error at 0000:7E21" Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for any help!

yes.
the 2nd sequence can follow the tempo of the original sequence.
i can't remember if you can do this in song mode or sequence mode or both, so consider that.

it you're restricted to sequence mode, simply create your song and convert that to a sequence.

an error like that sounds like a ram issue. two things to try: first, try loading another standard midi file from somewhere besides ableton. second, try taking your ram out and trying the operation again. if it goes away, you've got a bad stick of ram.

Hello

I'm having the same issue... I can load midi in the MPC from anywhere except Ableton

If I export a midi clip from Ableton and then load it in the MPC the MPC gives me the same error 0000:7E21 and freezes.. so I need to shut it down and turn it on again

Anyone has any suggestion about this?
What's in the Ableton midi files that's different from any other thing?

Hopefully this helps:

The MPC can also be picky about what is needed inside the midi file, so if you attempt to load a midi file and get a error, it's typically missing some header info such as Tempo and other small stuff. I usually manually place the info in there using Midi File Disassembler/Assembler, but you may find it easier to open the file in any software sequencer and just resave it.

You might want to import sequences from the MPC and compare the data against the sequences you want to export to the MPC.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know what happens to the note+variation events in the MIDI file? I can't seem to locate them with any MIDI editor.

i would guess that the data is wiped when saved as a standard midi file.
shame.
