HELP MPC 2000xl Broken!

Hi

Had my Mpc 2000 XL for 5 years now never had a problem, then one day it just stopped saving to my 250 Zip drive, still read the files but would not save. I thought was a disk problem so got some more but no joy. I thought might be the Zip Drive so bought another one did not work at all read or write. So Tried getting exactly the same type of zip drive and now does not even load date just crashes. powers up and can use floppy but not zip drive.

Any ideas what the problem might be and how to fix it my friend suggested might be the scsi fuse, but right now its giant paper weight which is nice.

Anyone know of place or person in london or berlin that could help me fix it.

Man bro... with all the money you spent on Zip drives and disks, you could have bought a card reader for your 2KXL and been up and running already.

Yes ditch the zips and say goodbye to hardware failure and data corruption.

There is nothing more to say, just do it.

well that does not really help, as i have all my stuff on zip disk so to get it of i need to get a drive working otherwise i lose everything.

so just putting in a card reader is not going to help and i have not spent much on the drives so far.

So does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it

honestly, I dont want you to do something you dont want to do or tell you what you dont want to hear... but this is the number 1 best plan to fix your issue for the long term.

1) Get yourself a USB zip drive or one that works on your computer (parallel might even work if your pc is compatible, or scsi if you have it... it doesn't matter as long as it works) ...

2) copy every zip disk onto your computer

3) get any cheap cf reader that works in your mpc, once upon a time I payes $1.50 including shipping for a cheap loose cf to ide adapter off ebay and while it did not come with a bracket or enclosure... it worked and I hollowed an old broken 3.5" floppy drive shell out to fix it in there.. it wasn't pretty but it worked.

4) get one or more cf cards... I suggest looking for 1 gb and smaller ones because they are cheaper...

5) get a cheap two dollar usb cf adapter off ebay




sure, it wont get you up and running again using zips... but enough playing around and risking your music projects already. CF cards are quieter, they load faster, they are easier to store, they are easier to use with a computer to do back ups, and they hold more data. The numero uno feature: No click of death. (which every zip drive WILL get eventually.)
