Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

hey there, i got a question and i didnt find it with the search funtion.
i record a miditrack with an external synthesizer (prophet 08) to the mpc, for example a bassline. then when i press play the mpc of course plays the recorded midinotes. everything fine so far, but when i want to record the bassline as audio to the mpc using RECOD IN, i press SAMPLE + SHIFT but then i cannot press the play button anymore and the mpc doesnt send the midi data to the synthie, so i cant record the midiline i played before as audio. is there a way to do this?

which mpc?
short answer, no, not that way. youd need to sequence it externally as you cant run the sequencer and sample at the same time.

you could just let the sequence run...do you really need to sample it?

i own the 2000xl.
actually, i dont need to sample it cause usually i use logic for recording the synthesizer.
a friend of mine just asked me if theres a way to record it directly to the mpc.
but thanks for the answer!

yea with a xl thats definitely not possible, and also your sample time is not as luxurious so you might as well just keep the sequence...you have more control anyway.

well, a different sort of control.

glad to help.
