Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

So...... after doing a few repairs on my own mp, I started flipping XL's on craigslist and ebay earlier this year. Mostly buying units with one or two defects and repairing them for a small profit. The easies flip I've been pulling is coppin a working or broken 2000 classic with a good screen and putting it into a XL with a shot screen. I can usually clear 100 bucks profit off this, and I'm piling up spare parts like no one's bizznass. So last night I check the craigslist ads and see an XL for 100 bucks even. Obviously its effed up... pads are shot, no cursor wheel, no slider knob, no biggie, screen is straight, i'm thinkin 100 bucks is a steal on a working screen. So I meet up today and the guy fires it up, i see it's got the full 8 outs in! bam! I'm stoked, pay, drive home, now i'm wondering.... and decide to check for the FX card. flip thru the menues and bam! eb-16 is in attendance. lmao. Screen, 8o's, FX card, totatal: 100 bucks. so dope :D

awesome. how's the market on them in cincy? I'm in detroit. Normal is like:

$400 for a fair condition XL w/ zip
$500 for a fair XL with CF or MCD, $600 w/ 8o's

anything lower is a steal. I rarely find deals appealing enough on ebay, but I swear that 50% of the MPC's sold on ebay are moving out of Atlanta for some reason.

You see there is money to be made in the music business, just not from making music.

During the goldrush it wasn't the diggers that got rich, it was the smart cats that were selling them the shovels...

So the saga continues. dude tells me he has the chrome-boxy design XL he wants to sell too, says 300 so i copped it today. another one with 8o's!. then the guy explains to me that when he was interning at this local studio they paid him in studio time and used gear. so he mentions that he has another XL with a shot screen that he'll sell me for 100. keep in mind he sold me one with shot pads but with a good screen. Where as he could have swapped the screen out and sold one of them for $500 instead of each one separately for 100. So i'm betting this last one will also have the 8o's since i now realize they're all coming out of a studio, and they of course need to be fitted for bouncing masters. Crossing fingers for another FX card.

great hustle.

keep up the good work

the value of the xl's will only go up as the good screens continue to diminish.

keep this in mind

Its good that youre making a lil pocket money out of this venture.

The best thing to come out of your "hustle" :P
is that some lucky guy gets an mpc that was destined for the scrap yard.

A lot of kids out here that have MPC's are switching over to in-the-box crap so they can sound like Lex Lugar and most pawn shops ain't paying good prices for them!

I wonder what these people do with their MPC's that they get so messed up.
I mean the pads could happen to any one, but losing a cursor wheel and a slider knob?

I mean I barley let my MPC get dusty lol

me too, okay pads wearing out is wear and tear.. but some people make the extra effort to slam the pads.. my 60 still has the original sensors and pad 1/2 are still almost as sensitive as pad 15/16.

What gets me for example are things like ayatolla's jog wheel on his 60.

I copped a mpc 2000 classic for 75 bucks because the lcd was done..this jawn was clean, with box manual and 8 outs! I resold it after i grabbed the 8 outs. No real cash profit cause i sold it for $75 but i didnt have to pay 250 for them outs. Not too many people getting rid of xl's in philly.

Well i ended up finding out that the Full Level and 16 Level buttons were out also. which probably occurred first, promoting some heavy pad slamming until the sensors shit out.

Long story short, a buyer called about another XL i had listed that was out of his price range and i mentioned I had this unit with non-working pads. He told me he had spare parts from his old XL and a set of working pads, so i told him i'd install the pads and sell him the unit for 400. I bought the thing for 100, and took out the 8outs and FX board, which will each fetch over 100 a piece at online auction. Bringing the profit margin on this XL to somewhere around 550-600.

All the xl's in Philly come from Jersey lol
