How To Lay Out Your Beats?

Some of my friends are telling me to lay out each sounds from my beat onto Protools instead of recording the beat as one wav file. Please let me know what the differences are and if it is important to lay out the sounds?

Well for mixing purposes. If you export your entire beat as a WAV. file and your hi-hats are louder then your kick & snare. Their is no way you can edit that. Now if you do all of them individually, then its easier to mix, not only that, you can EQ, Compress, Gate, Add Effects, etc. etc. The idea behind it is to make it sound smoother/better, and not so cluttered.

yes skywalker has it down. to answer your question yes, it is very important to "lay out" or separate your sounds other than record the whole beat to one track. you can mix in your akai, but to have your instruments spread out individually on a its own channel with effects, compression, reverb etc in a sequencer/DAW with give you waaay more control. you can shape your beats alot more this way. i see its your first post so im guessing you havent searched around this site. you should do that first. search about the 8 assignable outs because thats pretty much for what we're talking about- having 8 tracks record simultaneously into your DAW.
