Just bought an MPC 2000 for the LOW LOW

I went to guitar center yesterday to buy and popscreen filter for my mic and saw an mpc 2000 sitting there. Found out they only wanted 249.99 for it so once i figured out how to load up the sounds I had to have. Put that bad boy on layaway. Well basically I'm am need to know the basics of what software and addons i will need for this mpc.



1. This one has the standard floppy, Im pretty sure I will need the SCSI because I will be sampling.

2. On of the pads does not work, luckily it is in the bottom right corner.

3. What software will i need to create pgm. and what not, because I have alot of drums, in wav. format that I would like to load into my mpc and samples as well?


Random but I used to get on this site a long time ago when the mpc 1000 first came out. I almost bought one...wish I did. That was like my freshman year of high school. IM a junior in college now.

I know what you meant about off line storage...i meant to say the scsi for storing sounds and samples.

true...but for 249 i couldnt pass it up...ill probably end up fixing that pad and selling it honestly

i use floppies to save and load sounds with the 2000.
i know i need some sort of scsi storage drive, but if you sample in mono you can save some shiett with the floppy drive
drum sounds are very short samples and the sequences and programs files are very little and can be stored on a floppy togheter with the samples...
but if you want/need long samples you can't use the floppy
i belive that a floppy can storage only 20 seconds (in mono), correct me if i'm wrong
anyway... 20 seconds for me are enough for a single sample

I don't think $250 is a "LOW LOW" price for a fixer upper MPC-2000 classic. It is a quite fair price.

I hate to say this, but SCSI device will cost you, and MPC-2000 classic does not support folder directories. IDE CD reader won't work on 2000 classic, unless you get SCSI to IDE adapter, which is very hard to get.

It was the main reason that I switched to XL from 2000 classic. Data wheel on 2000 classic is nice though.

SCSI 2.5" MO drive (Magneto Optical drive) is a good option for MPC-2000 and Other old samplers that support SCSI devices. MO drives are usually available on ebay. Any 2.5" disk MO drive with SCSI port would work with MPC-2000 classic and XL (or other SCSI samplers.) I recommend NOT to use SCSI Zip drive, as it is extremely unreliable for data storage.

About the pad, cleaning up the pad sensor (you have to open the MPC, and remove the rubber pad sheet).

neither do I... I bought my 2000 classic in mint condition (barely a scratch on it..) with the 8 outs, eb16, smpte, max ram... everything works flawlessly in fact when I got it... I doubt it had more then a couple of hours of use. (no f-rom .. I would have payed $350 if it had that too)

well if all else fails...its a decent lil piece of hardware and i can use the pads as a midi controller...but i did want to break away from my computer based production for a while

it will do the trick... I'm sure you're gonna love working with that machine... it is super fun. Okay it doesn't have every bell and whistle as new technology but who cares.. slam beats out on it and record that into the mpc.. add some more to it and you're done.

i finally found my old account...it took me 7 years to finally get an mpc lol
