Please help!

I have searched the forums for a long time on hooking up my mpc/turntable/mixer and still can't hear anything when I have my headphones in the mpc...this is pissing me off cause this is something so simple and I just don't know whats going on

this is what im doing....I switch the turntable to phono and have a cable going from the outputs of the turntable into channel 1 of the mixer(which I have set to phono aswell)

then I have another cable going from the outputs of the mixers "master" to the inputs of the mpc's record in(and i am using rca to rca cable with quarter inch adapters on one end)


when I put the headphones into the mixer I can hear sound but when I put the headphones into the mpc and go to the sampling screen I hear nothing

you can see the back connections for both...I do not have a ground wire because it is not needed for that turntable

I know somebody out there can help me

In honesty I don't run that kind of set up, all my stuff goes directly into Pro Tools before the MPC but have you tried simply unplugging all your stuff and making sure your headphone socket actually works? Like just load a beat in and play it, if that doesnt work then you have an answer, if it does work then I dunno lol.

I just purchased this mpc and the guy I brought the mpc from played a beat at his house from his headphones and it worked fine...but I don't even have any disks with sounds on them to even load it up into my mpc and see if that's what the problem is...

just cause you hear music in the headphones of the mixer doesn't mean sound is coming out of the mixer - that's kind of the point of a dj mixer.

a few things to check on your mixer:

channel fader for the turntable - is it up?
crossfader - is it in the middle / on the correct side?
master volume - is it up?

a few things to check on the mpc:

master volume - is it up?
record level knob - is it up? (put it in the middle to start)
sampling screen - do you have the correct source selected?
headphones - are they plugged into the correct jack?

maybe more things to check but maybe you get where im going with that. my bet is on the crossfader.

Your were exactly right it was the crossfader...thanks a bunch!!! don't know how I overlooked something so minor

the minor stuff is the easiest stuff to overlook

I can't believe you broke it down like the teacher does. That's some old Samuel L Jackson shit.

great you got that sorted.. also, the same type of minor issue scare happened to me a while back ... but the answer in my case was I had the right input selected and it should have been the left input selected... I plugged the jack in the wrong spot hahaha.. none the less I figured it out a minute later.
