hi, i have some programs and sequences i stored on zip disks on an old mpc 2000xl. new 2000xl doesnt have a zip drive, but has an external cd dricve. i can only get access to one partition on the zip disk on my computer.. assuming there is software for this. any suggestions. i googled, but couldn't find much...

my only suggestion would be to install win xp on virtual box and try to look at them that way ... others around here and i have all had issues with mac depositing hidden files on your media that the mpc doesn't like.

OT: In what way doesn't the 2KXL "like" those files?

I have a 2KXL with CF-reader. I also have an imac that i use to access the stuff on the CF-card for backing up, etc. I have noticed the hidden files created by the imac on the card... however, there's never been a single issue with these files on the 2KXL.

I sample all my stuff with the MPC, i save my beats into folders which are in the root directory of the CF card. I save an "all programs and sounds" file (including all sounds as .snd files) and an "all sequence and song" file.

I have copied the whole content of the card (or single folders) to my imac and back to the card, multiple times over the last few months... i have yet to encounter a single issue.

So yeah, what's the problem exactly?

dang, lucky you. i think we've narrowed it down to a combination of card reader + card + maybe os (really narrow, huh? )

anyway as soon as i plug my card into os x, it deposits some hidden files, and then the card will not load at all on my 2kxl. i have to take it to windows, remove the files there, then it will work.

there are supposedly programs (clean up smb mess being one) that are supposed to fix this, but none have worked for me.

im also not the only one on around here who has experienced this, so you are pretty lucky.

trust me, i aint making this up.
'dont take me for a ideot bro'
just kidding i know yer not but that felt appropriate.

edit: thinking back on it, i think we determined that the non-hotswap readers were more tolerable of this. i have a hot swap multi-card and i have the problem.

Wow, i see! :o
Thanks for the explanation, i guess i'm really lucky indeed then! :D
(mine's the non-hot-swappable addonics reader, using the latest OS for the MPC and a 1GB sandisk card)

And sorry for high-jacking this thread.

Make sure your other partition isn't "hiding" somewhere else on the desktop. They usually show up as totally seperate icons.

thanks for the suggestions, ill give it a try on a pc. just to clarify though, i am having trouble finding all the partitions on the computer. MPC no longer has zip drive, so i am strictly trying to transfer songs from old zip disks to a new storage medium.
