Copying pad banks to other programs

Is there a way to copy a pad bank from one program to an empty bank in another?

I feel like I may be missing something obvious.

Basically why this would be useful - chop a sample into 16 zones and make a new program out of it (which appears in bank A), then chop another sample into 16 and put that into the same program in the next bank automatically (B, C or D, etc.). Instead of having to assign them manually into the pads on bank B, C or D.

If someone could school me it would be appreciated.

short answer, no.
long answer, yes.

you can copy a single pad between programs / pads within a program.

go to program edit, assign screen, and move the cursor over the first midi note number.
hit open window.
it will bring up a pad copy window. the only problem is for some reason they left out the 'tap to select pad' functionality form this very useful screen! so you have to either scroll through the options until the destination pad is selected, or you have to know it's note number and type that in....coupled with the bizarre way the xl assigns note numbers, this can be a an unecessarily tedious - cause to find like pad c10 you have to scroll through a bunch cause it doesn't necessarliy come after c09?!

finally, my advice would be to just quit doing the 'create new program' when you do a chop. it doesn't take a lot of time to assign the chops to pads in another program, as they will be placed at the end of the sample list. so just go into assign, tap pad, throw the wheel real fast, repeat. it can really be done for all 16 slices in about 10 seconds once you get the muscle memory.


but no, you can't copy/paste a range of pads between programs.
so either copy one at a time or just get into the habit of assigning manually.

Thanks tapedeck. That's a good point about muscle memory. I am a bass player at heart so I know that phenomenon pretty well.

its kind of like driving an automatic vs manual car.

yea you can go automatic and have it create yer program, but you will eventually run into problems like the one you are describing.
doing it manually might seem daunting at first, but once you get used to it, it becomes second nature, and almost just as fast as the other method...but with more control over the results.
