Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By candelac Sun Feb 05, 2012 5:38 am
When I download the os from this site it comes with .exe, .sys, and pdf file. Obviously I don't need the pdf file. So I loaded the .exe and .sys file to a card reader using a sandisk ultra cf card. Place the card into my pcmia adapter to my scsi drive and the MPC 2000 doesn't recognize. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Myy bad yo. Benn drinkingg heevily bafore supEr bowl. Try this: http://www.proaudiosupport.com/a25515/upgrade-os-akai-mpc2000.html

How do I upgrade my OS of my Akai MPC2000?

A: MPC2000 Operating System Update Instructions

Note: The operating system for the MPC2000 is stored in a compressed format for PC and Mac computers. You'll need a utility such as WinZip (for Windows) or MacZipIt (for Mac) to decompress the file once you've downloaded it. Please check the documentation supplied with the utility for assistance with decompressing the file.

Step 1. Download and expand the archive file.
After decompressing the file you should find three files, including [mpc2000.exe], [mpc2000.sys] and the manual addendum in .pdf format describing the changes in the new OS.

Note: If your Windows PC is unable to see all three files, your PC may not be set to display certain system files. This can be changed by opening your Windows Explorer and selecting [Tools/Folder Options] from the pull down menu. Next, click on the [View] tab and look for [Hidden Files] in the list, and make sure the [Show all files] option is selected.

Step 2. Make an OS disk.
Simply copy the [mpc2000.exe] and [mpc2000.sys] files onto a freshly formatted DOS format floppy disk. If you’re a Mac user, do not change the name of the disk from "Untitled".

Step 3. Save any data contained in memory.
Since the MPC2000 must be rebooted to install the upgrade, anything contained in memory will be lost. If you have any data loaded that you want to keep, you should save it now.

Step 4. Load the new OS file into your MPC2000.
After you've read the Akai software license agreement carefully, simply turn the power off on your MPC, insert the new version OS disk into the floppy drive and turn the power back on.

Step 5. Confirm that the new OS has properly loaded.
You can confirm that the new operating system has been properly installed by pressing SHIFT + OTHER, then selecting VER. (softkey F3). The screen should display the version of the currently installed operating system.
