8 outs surgery! REmoving 8 outs board from a 2000 classic

I have tried to search whassup with the internet on some details of how to go about this removal process so I can put homies 8 outs board in my 2000xl but alas no luck. If anyone whos had experience doing this could hit me with times and tricks that'd be crucial...

it's annoying to do...

the 2000 you gotta take off the top of the case which lifts off and that gives you access to the pads etc.. then you gotta take all that off ,, the pads etc.. that will give you access to the insides of the mpc. then you unscrew the the 8 outs from the bracket it's on and gently undo the ribbon cable that attaches the 8 outs to the machine..

in the xl, it is easy to open up because you turn it upside-down and remove the bottom plate to get into the machine (there is no bottom plate on the 2000 classic)

It's not really a pain.
You remove 3 screw on the back, 2 on each side three on the front bottom for the plastic front then three screw on the top under the plastic front cover.
Remove slide cap raise the top off.

Next remove 2 screws on each side that hold the top plate and 1 in the middle of the front of the top plate.
Top plate will come right off note it has a cable connected on the underside that needs to be disconnected.

You will then see the twisted cable for the 8-out that needs to be disconnected.
Only thing left is to remove the screws on the rear for the 8-out card.


As mentioned the 2kxl is much easier but the OG 2k isn't too bad.

yeah not as bad as say... opening up an mv-8000 ... but more annoying than say... the 2000xl or the 60 etc..

Getting to the buttons on the MV lets you understand Roland didn't spare an inch of extra space.

The reason the XL is so easy is because the OG was the way it was.
If you remember when the OG came out the memory and cards were dealer install not user install because all you had to remove.

The XL was a nice evolution of hardware and software.

oh hell I agree... okay the 60 was okay for getting into, but you are right about the ram.

you are right about the mv.. I had mine completely dismantled a while back because I scrubbed every board in the sink due to a spill on the machine that had some shit not working..

i'll settle for having them hanging out the back

yeah i think so. Go mixer n then over to individual n choose an out... only thing is, no thing comes out.... (prolly should consult the manual at this point).
