SMPTE? Smptengs gotta give - 2000xl

SMPTE timecode is a set of cooperating standards to label individual frames of video or film with a time code defined by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers in the SMPTE 12M specification.
Timecodes are added to film, video or audio material, and have also been adapted to synchronize music. They provide a time reference for editing, synchronization and identification. Timecode is a form of media metadata. The invention of timecode made modern videotape editing possible, and led eventually to the creation of non-linear editing systems.


So my question is.. any of yall ever done anything with this feature on the back of your mpc?? Just curious

I'm thinking live vid/sample flippage or some ish...

keep in mind that even if you have the jack on your mpc, the chip itself might not actually be installed.

you can check by going to sync screen and seeing if smpte is an option.

it's really suited for multi-tracking to tape - you record the smpte code to tape, then feed it back to the mpc on next playback and in theory the mpc should run in sync to the tape.

it's not really for 'triggering', more for just keeping two sources locked in time.

Used it in the past first with a 238 then with DA88s.
With the 88s also used a DTP to route and sync.
Was kinda of a necessity at the time but of no personal use now.
