timing correct and the Swing function (?)

(this post is a bit similar to my last, but that one has dropped a bit and I didn't think I'd get many replies, so forgive me for being redundant)

I'm not very familiar with either of these features. A few questions:

1. are the two connected or independent- meaning can I leave the shift timing at 0, but change the swing percentage and alter the track, or will that do nothing

2. if they are different, in what way?

3. why does the swing counter only appear on the 1/8 and 1/16 settings?
what if I've sequenced something with the quantize off and I want to apply a setting- how does that work?

This is all stuff that most of us learn by experimenting. Play around with these features & see what happens. You aren't going to damage anything by trying. Just stick with the basic rule of saving everything you like so you can recall it if you then go & do something you don't like.

Some quick answers:

1: Independent.

2: Swing alters the overall feel of a track, (see next answer), while shift timing can be applied to a single sound to make it play a bit earlier or later.

3: Swing delays certain notes in a bar to make the track........well, swing!?!? Fill an empty track in an empty sequence with a closed hat on every 16th. Swing the whole thing on 1/16 at around 55% & you'll hear what it is all about.
