Preventing 2kxl screen death?

I was wondering if maybe turning off the backlight somehow would prevent the screen from over heating... What do mpc forums?

I was thinking installing some kind of small fan in the casing maybe? Or some kind of heat conductive vent for dispersal...

So the 2k/2kxl screen dies due to overheating? Is there a specified life cycle in hours(MTBF) for these that is public? Also, my 2k classic has vents that I understand were removed in the xl...is that a known factor( it makes logical sense, but have people reported xl screens dying faster?). My MPC is my only hardware sampler right now, and I'd hate to see her die from something I could prevent!

Not sure if there's anything you can do to stop this, other than stop using your XL

Envision was apparently working on a 'v2' replacement screen for the XL, not sure what the current status on this is.

It's more of an design issue with weak solder joints than anything else. A lot of the electronics made years ago that use the same flexible ribbon connection technology develop lines over time.

It is possible to reflow the solder joints but not recommended unless you can work with the fine pitch. I've had more success fixing lines using hot air rather than a soldering iron. Many people that say it can't be repaired are often in the business of selling replacement parts.

Be on the lookout for used Akai DPS12 units if you can inspect the screen before purchasing. They tend to go cheap ($100-$150) You can harvest the screen as well get some other spare parts (inverter, power supply, etc) for your MPC 2000XL.

I never understood why people leave their 2000XL on for days and weeks. I know it's not truly proven but a **** up screen could be caused by this neglect of leaving the MPC on that long.
Turn it on, makes beat, save the beat , turn it off... Simple as that. I did this with my 2000XL for 13 years and my screen stayed as clear and unblemished as the day I bought it.

It's more this than anything else.
I have been the owner of a 2k studio, 2k, (2) 2kxls and a 2kxl MCD.
The 3 that I purchased new never had any screen issues.
One of the 2kxl units had a motherboard fail but not the screen.
The only unit that had a screen fail was a 2k I got used and even that only had one blank line.
I was one of the early purchasers of the Envision screen but got a refund because of the issues it had.
Took the screen out of a DPS12 split the cable and extended it for the 2k.
Not the most fun procedure to do but still was less of a headache than dealing with that screen from Envision.
I hope hey get them right whenever the v2 screens show up.

Still seems people help the screens fail more so than just a bad design.

I just wonder how many of the user units on eBay might have one of the Envision screens and the seller isn't disclosing that fact?
Could make for a real unhappy purchase.

I remember when Envision came on the forum with a great solution for replacing the bad screens. Then he just disappeared into the internet abyss...
