Serious Addonics CF Reader help needed

Hey guys first post and I need help!

I am trying to install the recommended Addonics ADIDECFB card reader an I can't get my XL to see the drive.

1. I'm running OS 1.2 (bought the floppy from mpc stuff)

2. Everything is plugged in correctly. I'm running the power cable that powered the floppy drive. I tested the cable by reinstalling the floppy. I tried 3 different IDE cables, including a brand new one picked up today. Reader is set to master, I tried it set to slave to see if anything would happen.

3. I have tried 2 different CF cards. The blue 1 gig SanDisk and then a 2 gig Transcend CF card that was listed on Amazon as "True IDE Mode (fixed disk)".

I have the disk in the drive when I power on the CF drive is not an option. I just have floppy, SCISI or FROM.

I'm at a loss and not sure what to do. Am I missing something?

I'm pretty close to sending the card reader back to Addonics and shelling out the money for the MPC stuff drive.

I'm using the same cf reader, just installed it two days ago... basically plug and play...
but i did use the scandisk ultra ii 2gb card, per the suggestions of the stickied thread on cf cards and had no issue. I was forced to format it on the akai, and it only see's 1gb, but i've had no problems so far... probably need a different cf card...

I ordered the ultra ii card today so we will see. I don't get how the brand and type would make a difference.

A fixed disk is a fixed disk right?

1. scandisk? if thats what your joint says you got some next level cambodia smuggled in through a dogs kidneys type joint.

2. plug all your cables in harder or make sure theyre in the right way round etc.

3. make sure the cf card is plugged in when you turn ur mpc on or it wont recognize your joint, they push in quite a bit i often forget to push them in fully.

I'm still having the same problems, I can't get it to read as ATAPI..

I have set the jumper to master now, My other problem is which way does the IDE cable goes round, its got a red line on it....

If someone could show me, I'd be grateful.

My ide only went in one way, each end is the same should be a 40pin if i remember correct (its all in that sticky thread with cf cards readers) aside from that just push things in harder without being the incredible hulk's dumb ass cousin and breaking it... as said before push cf card in and turn on.

Well the Sandisk Ultra card came in the mail today and the damn thing works!

Looks like it reads the full 2 gigs as well. I can't believe that the card is that big of an issue but appearantly it is.

good to hear... did you have to format the cf card on your xl? mine will only see 1gb, i'd like to know what you did different than me... did you format on your computer or the xl? or did you not format at all?

I was mistaken on the 2 gig as only one is available for use. On the format screen the type is listed as a 2 gig drive but when I go to save something only 1 gig is available.

I formatted the card on the mpc also.

I found your first post and realized I have the exact same problem. I executed all of the troubleshoots you've mentioned, and still nothing seems to work !!!
What's weird is that when I have the CF card in the adapter, then power on the MPC 2000xl, the screen goes crazy and distorts/freezes. But when I turn on the MPC without the CF card in the adapter, it works just fine (but obviously without any storage… )

Any idea of what the problem is ? I've been troubleshooting constantly and nothing is working.
I've only been using the Sandisk Ultra II 2GB CF card.
And running OS 1.2
Please help out.
