Software to hardware, please help!

making the hop from software based production to hardware based. Im about to score an MPC 2000XL.

What else should i purchase to help my workflow and learning of the basics?

Also, how can i get sounds/samples from my laptop onto the MPC since i read there is no USB device?

an XL with CF card drive and maxed RAM it is all what you need, you can buy a CF card adapter for your PC so you can move your WAV samples in to your CF card and then load the CF card into your MPC, easy...

you definitely need a new drive or external drive as locotesmjr menitoned. floppy is too small. After that I think the best way to get samples onto your MPC from the computer is to use the MPCeditor program, http://www.midicase.com/mpceditor/ that's a bit faster than loading each wav individually.

http://www.propellerheads.se/products/recycle/ this is recommended in that tutorial, there are other beat slicer programs too, Ive only tried this one so far. it gets the job done much faster than chopping on the MPC itself.

i just got my MPC 2000XL with maxed RAM and a zip drive installed

2 more questions.

i have a set of speakers/subwoofer that connect through jacks smaller than 1/4 and they connect into the headphone slot through my laptop to get sound. If i buy a 1/4 splitter and plug it into my MPCs "headphone" slot will it work?

my second questions comes to the ZIP drive. I have one zip disk with a few samples already on it. What kind of adapter or whatever can i buy to move my WAV files onto the zip disk from my laptop?

the mpc is a sampler... also called a sampling machine. It samples... meaning you can use it to sample... Why is it that so many people are determined to avoid sampling?

90% of the mpc's charm is in the step where you record into the machine... if you are going to load up samples you cut up on your computer already... might as well skip the mpc all together cause it wont contribute shit.. unless you are just using the mpc for show in a youtube video or something.

I sample from my library right into the machine. That makes use of the AD converters in the mpc, it rules out the need to convert file types.. and it eliminates the time needed to copy files and reload them into the mpc.

i see where you're coming from. But fill me in on what a AD converter is

IF u format a zip in Mpc the computer can't read it so format only in computer.
