Put the card in the MPC and go to the load screen and choose format. (Or press load if the card has anything on it already). If you are looking to load sounds from the CF card your easiest route is putting the CF card in a PC, internal or external reader and drag folders and samples to the card from there. 16 bit/44.1khz WAV files or .SND files but I doubt you will be dealing those unless you are getting samples from another XL or 2000.
Read the manual, the machine is straightforward but a basic grasp of it's screens and features will save you much frustration.
