MPC 2000 screens...just a heads up.

I figured I might give you guys a heads up since I didn't see this posted anywhere.

I've been putting a MPC 2000 classic through rehab (see my other post). It has the usual lines in the screen, so I've been trying to find a replacement. I guess I missed the new replacement screens by a couple of months and now they are nowhere to be found (mpcstuff, ebay, etc.).

In my quest to see if anyone had a good screen laying around I tracked down the guy that originally developed the new replacement screens sold by mpcstuff.com.

I actually came across his cell number (stalking I know) and we started texting back and forth.

He said that not only is he working on a better screen (no lag) but it will also have the option of...get this...VGA OUTPUT SO YOU CAN CONNECT A MONITOR! I can see someone installing one of those $50 mini 7" screens on an MPC.

Should be out in a couple of months he said.

nice - yea envision sort of disappeared once the screens actually came out.

i hope they do get a better version going - it sounded like the issues they brought out were a bit more obnoxious than people were hoping, but major props they are trying to get them right. on something this epic and homegrown - feeling like a betatester doesn't sting as hard.

still wish the guy hadn't disappeared like that - he was really active around here during development.

That'd be dope I'm looking for a new screen as well, now I'll just wait. Hopefully it's out by the new year.

Was thinking about this the other day though... How would you supply the VGA output other than providing instructions to hack the back of your machine?

any word on these yet? I'm needing a new screen as well without any luck so far.

my guess is you would have to make a hole (still worth it if it works properly)

or you could maybe remove something from an existing hole if you aren't using it or dont have the option etc... but that will probably cause making the hold bigger..

or, maybe there is a cable you can dangle through the bottom of the case .. but that would suck.

maybe the display itself on the xl version will have a connection in the back... which would probably suck too.

I am gonna guess you gotta make a hole though... it will probably require a drill and file... maybe mpc stuff will sell cases that have that done already.

That's all I could come up with as well, mabye running a cable through the unused SMTPE outboard slot? But the idea of drilling a hole in my 2000, not happening ever.

well I mean.. if the mod was good... the screen worked properly this time and not with issues like the last envision screen....

well I might then consider mounting a vga port on the back .. it would look the same as the scsi but shorter.. right? (oh it would be blue too) but it might be possible to get it to look more or less like it was built originally like that.

It would dope if then VGA was built into a new tilt screen casing, and make a different one to upgrade the 2000 to a tilt screen with VGA on the back. I'd rather buy another casing and cut out the screen cover on my 2000 than drill holes in the backing.

But I'd take any new screen that came out right now, not to derail the thread but my screen is perfect just a burned out backlight.. Any safe way to fix this without replacing the screen? I think I need a new cold cathode, but I don't know where to get one or anything.

This is all true. Already available for pre-order on our site. They will be a V2 updated screen from the original version and offer external VGA upgrade support.

Yes, I disappeared for a while. We hired a different engineer for the new design, but it turned out that he was extremely busy all the time. So, it took some time for him to fit us in since we're a small-time company. But it is definitely worth the wait.

The first screens did have some disappointing lags due to the way the LCD data was transposed. This was something we didn't know much about when we did the original software, and by the time they were released, we had already bought hundreds of customized screens.

The new screens use a Xilinx FPGA. It has enough horsepower to immediately translate the data from the MPC to the LCD and spit data out to the VGA monitor in real time. This translates to ZERO lag for you.

The VGA connector itself will be supplied with its own panel that can be placed in the 2000's SMPTE jack opening. For those that have the SMPTE slot filled or have an XL you can punch a standard "XLR" hole that fits a Switchcraft EHHD15FFB. I'll also investigate a "dongle" where the VGA connector/cable is installed with a much smaller connector.
