mpc 2000 and sony cdu77e cd rom

hello,im new to this forum as well as the mpc,but i am over anxious to get going with it.always wanted one.hoever to get to the point without boring folks:i would love to know if it is possiible to connect the 2000 to the sony cdu77e cd rom drive and have it work properly?if so,can anyone please explain the requirements and how to?it will be weel appreciated.
also,if not,can anyone recommend a external drive that is known to work well with the 2000?

nope. it won't work.
I googled to see a picture of the sony cdu77e cd rom but it's an internal drive that has an IDE connection on the rear of it.
you need an external SCSI cd or DVD or card reader or Zip drive to connect to your MPC2000.

If your on a 2000 classic you won't even be able to read cd's.

No shit??? I didn't know that.
I thought all MPC's could read from specific external SCSI CD-Rom drives.
That makes me like my 2000XL that much more now!

Yeah dude hella whack, a 2000 classic can only read cd's with an akai disk image. Which I haven't found, and then burning it would be just as illusive. I think the only way todo it is burning the disk Image/samples from a partition on a scsi hard drive. Then with the xl they added the ability to read data cd's with WAVs.

Since reliable Zip drives are becoming very hard find these days and it's a pain to go through a ton of floppy disk I would recommend you get a flash drive:
