why is it playing & triggering midi,but no samples?

I have had my machine for a minute. But last night i was bangin out, and somewhere while I was programming, I went to play my sequences-and it was only playing the midi ( triggering ) but it wasn't playing any sounds inside the mpc, nor will i hear them when I trigger. When i go into trim mode i can hear them but only then, did i flip a switch somewhere quickly-is there a kill switch in the window that i might have switched. Because i was startin to get petro thinking i fried it. My sequence was so clean-i just let the machine loop for an hour............then I though maybe i fried the 8 outs, but in trim mode i can hear everything but not on main screen?...I saved everything, powered down-went and blazed and let the machine cool down. after the el , I went to boot, reloaded eveything-it's all there, sounds, midid, but I still cannot hear anything that is inside the mpc, it willl only play the midi stuff..............somebody, anybody?


( presently i have the stereo L/R out running to a vs880 ( to avoid feedback when switching from rec to play, and also to just be able to rec on outside unit ) and the 8 outs are running to a behringer 2442a.

Could it be that you accidentally switched the DRUM number on the bottom left of the screen?


Because you can have 4 different Programs loaded in different DRUMs at the same time, and in each of those 4 programs you have 4 banks of sounds.. So if you changed the number to a program that doesn't have any sounds in it then you're not going to hear anything..

That's the only thing I can think of now..

But be sure to study the manual, because the whole DRUM / PROGRAM thing can seem a little hard to understand when you're starting out.

thanks cheeech, but I'm not starting out, jus never ran into this before. on the left side of the screen? it can only be midi or drum. in the program window-the only one on the disc, all the sounds show up when i hit the assigned pad, but no sounds.......................anyone?

anyway, so I have no idea what happened, it wasn't a program change because i do that to remix the track but keep the files together. I don't know what happened, but i blew some phillie smoke at it and , that fixed it.............but i don't recommend that as a repair technique

Yeah but your programs are "located" in those DRUMs.. So by changing the DRUM number you are changing the program as well (that is if you have more than one program loaded!)

Glad you got it working tho... You wouldn't mind blowing some philly smoke this way too ?

MIDI - DRUM 1 - DRUM 2 - DRUM 3 - DRUM 4

On the 2000 we don't get the option of having more than one MPC program being used simultaneously. If a track is switched to DRUM, next to it you can scroll though all 32 midi channels (as in 1 to 16 A & B ). This will mean both the MPC's internal sounds & any external midi instruments are both played by the same track. Useful if you want a sampled bass to be fattened up by doubling the sound with a subby synth bass, but otherwise not a feature that would be used much.
