OK.... First let me start this off by apologizing to those who have been using these machines for years & know it like the back of their hands... I apologize only because this is probably going to be a no-brainer for most of you, but rest assured that I am VERY smart & I most certainly have tried everything I can think of prior to posting this....
I just recently grabbed an Akai MPC2000XL (1st "white/gray/red" version) locally for $450, which I considered to be a fair price... It is as close to mint as I have ever seen & i'm excited to start working with it after being a "DAW" head for longer than I care to mention. The unit has the version 1.2 OS & while it unfortunately did not come with the 8-output board (which i'm planning to get in the near future), it DID come with the internal MCD-2 SD/CF card reader unit installed, along with an SD card that has a large handful of drum samples. I have scanned through several of them, I have successfully auditioned a few & gone so far as to assign them to pads. Here are 2 problems that i'm experiencing so far, & i'm hoping that it is just user error:
#1. I cannot figure out how to re-name the filename of the programs I create... Its like I try to move the cursor to the position of the screen that displays the program name, but it will not allow me to change it. Hopefully I can figure this one out shortly & will update once I do/IF I do... But as of right now i'm stumped...
#2. Last but not least, the MAJOR problem i'm having is saving/RE-loading "programs". It is my understanding that "programs" can basically be considered as drum "kits" & please correct me if i'm wrong on that... It is also my understanding that each "program" contains data in regards to samples (if you choose to include them) as well as sample/pad assignments that have been arranged within that program... I have tried numerous times to save a "program" that I created, it looks as though it has saved it, but when I try to load it back up (after powering down then back up) I hit the pads & I have no sound. So its like it's saving the default name of the program (which, as of right now, I cannot figure out how to rename) but it's not loading up the samples & I have chosen the option to include them (i'm selecting "WITH SOUNDS" as instructed in the manual).
Truly hoping i'm just doing something wrong & it's not a problem with the machine that the seller failed to make mention of. Hope someone can help!!!! Thanks
