MPC2000XL to MPC1000 and vice versa

Hi all, I already own an MPC2000XL which i use in the studio but i'm thinking of getting an MPC-1000 purely for writing beats on the road.
Does anyone here know if i will easily be able to transfer program, sequences and samples from the 1000 to the 2000XL to continue working
on stuff in the studio? and vice vera so i can get my 2000XL library loaded up on the 1000..

Currently my MPC 2K has a zip drive in it and i've ordered a USB zip drive for my macbook pro 13" which has a CF reader.
So in theory it should be easy to do but not sure how the 2 different MPC OS's will like it!

Your not gonna be able to load mpc1000 files on the 2000xl I don't think...

okay, maybe some individual .wav sounds... I am sure those will load... but forget about the all sequences and songs... and forget about all programs and sounds.. That is what I suspect... top it off, the 1000 you will probably be using jjos. I think you would be rebuilding the entire beat in the 1000... which is a more advanced machine than the 2000/xl

If you want a 1000 just ditch the 2000xl and use the 1000 for everything.

1000 programs will not load in the XL. The XL will read 1000 sequences as long as they were saved in MIDI format, but this will wipe out the MPC-specific info (q link data etc).

Basically you should be fine loading your XL stuf into your MPC1000, but as m56p87 says, maybe think about switching to a 1000 permanently or a 2500 etc.

thanks for the advise guys.

my reason for wanting to keep the 2k XL was that i've heard mixed reports on the sound quality and feel being the same on the 1000. so i thought that at least if i could get my whole 2k XL library on the 1000, and just use it for writing grooves on the road it would be a useful tool.

Might have to go for the 1000 and see though as it has got a load of great new features and portability is a major plus.

The various free desktop editors are a huge time saver when you have to manually recreate your XL stuff for the 1000. I have both and it's is a nice complement to have both. XL's are a tiny bit chunkier on the bottom end but it's subtle, nothing like a 60/3000 as far as a character to the sound. But the 1000's conveniences make up for the extra work needed to make the sound less neutral.

You'd probably be glad to have both.

meh, what ever.... at the end of the day, im sure you'll make the 1000 sound perfectly fine.

Yeah i hear you. I used to have an EMU SP1200 and had the XL back then, in those days i didn't like the XL as much as i was comparing it to the quality and feel of the EMU. But after the last 8/9 years of using a MAC for mostly everything suddenly the XL's sounding great.
Of course, getting out of doing everything in the mac makes a lot of things sound better.. A dedicated drum machine/sampler will always win hands down.

But that's another topic for another day..

I once read on Gearslutz forum the SP desribed as "Jesus Beatboxing in your ear". I have to concur.

The FX on the 1000 aren't the greatest but they're more than useable. Get a JJOS on a 1000 and you'll be in heaven as it's a nice sweet spot between the computer DAW and the XL. (JJOS2XL almost reaches the 4000's list of features with all that was added).

Ha.. Yeah the SP was really cool no doubt about that but i have to say i'd rather use Akai's operating system any day. Never been a fan of EMU's OS's.

So is the JJOS2XL the latest version of his OS for the 1000? I've heard some great things about JJOS since my little research into the 1000s started a week or so ago. So will be getting it for sure but don't know that much about the history etc.

There was OS1 and OS2 prior as paid ones, and the Free one. When you buy XL you get all three paid ones to switch freely between. The license is done with the machine's internal ID so you have to always have it on that MPC. But you can recoup at resale.

Accepted history is JJ got shafted when was he assistant the lead programmer at Akai and straight stole the code and went home and made it better. Akai couldn't sell 1000's and 2500's if he hadn't so they look the other way.
