How to get that MPC 2000xl Sound out of a MPC 1000 (possible

Yo.

So im wondering if there is any way to give my mpc 1000 some of that vibe/sound the mpc 2000xl gives, im thinking bout the warm, crackling, type of sound. Hard to explain but you who own a mpc 2000 i guess u guys know what im talking about. Cus I feel that the drums on a mpc 1000 sometimes feels verry computerish. and i see all these cats who make beats on mpc 2000xl that the drums are just sounding so crisp and dope!

The 2000xl doesnt really have a "sound" its quite clear just muddies up the sound a little bit. Sample source has a lot more to do with the sound than anything else. You can try doing some research on here for different ways to add a more "distinct" sound through older rackmount samplers that could be had for cheap or phrase samplers, tube preamps or even just recording hot into cassette or a vhs will all give you different results. Experiment and see keep what sticks. In your daw you can also pitch up and down on different sample rates and use plugins like Decimort or even vintage mode in battery etc.

akai S2000. dirt cheap these days. I wouldn't know from personal experience but people say the S2000 is more or less the same sample engine as mpc2000/2000XL. And If that's true, then in sample mode it will monitor the signal after it passes through the whole digital conversion process. So you might even get away using it like an effect.

If you want the 2000XL "sound", get a 2000XL.

If you want a muddy sound, here's what you do:

Pour pudding on the record you sample and let the pudding dry.
Pour pudding on your mixer and let it dry
Then sample into your 1000.

I'm just kidding, I would just say the 'sound' argument is one of those sensitive topics to MPC purists.
