Broken Jog Wheel Repair

I just recieved my 2kxl in the mail and it appears that the jog wheel is non-responsive. I ordered the rotary encoder so me and my dad could repair it, but he is unsure about it because he is afraid we might overheat the circuit board. Has this ever been a problem for anyone? If it has been, how should we avoid it? Thank you.

practice soldering a lot on stuff you don't mind ruining before you start on something that matters.

Never done it , but I believe someone with good soldering skills would have little trouble, just the usual take it slow type operation.

Thanks for the advice. And yeah that's where I ordered the part from and that manual is great.

Also, is there any way I can work around this problem until I get it fixed? I tried using the shift+slider method, but that only works on number values such as sample time. Does anyone know another method?
