I bought(but haven't paid for yet) a 2k for 210$. What confused me is the seller said it has a noise coming from it I can only relate to the click of death after I tried researching it.

"It started producing a harsh cracking sound (loose pot maybe?) that happens sometimes. Maybe it's the volume pot but idk"

Is all I've gotten from him so far. Any idea on what this is?

Sounds to me like this is just a dirty potentiometer. This is to be expected with any older gear. Unless it's really dirty, you should be able to get by without even replacing it.

And if I had to clean it? Could I youtube this, or is it just unscrewing the top part off and cleaning like that?

I guess what you would use is a can Deoxit spray, but that's only if I'm correct that the issue is only a scratchy pot. And that would only be if you really really wanted to remove the scratchy noise because it's not usually a big deal.

Screen looks nice at least. No lines or bad pixels. Only problem is this "occasional" sound that I can hopefully fix.

Wal Martian wrote:"Click of death" refers to the sound a zip drive makes when it's no longer functioning. This sounds like a loose solder point or old/dirty pot.

Hmmm hopefully it's the latter. Thanks for clarifying that.

I think he was just trying to clarify the difference. The way it was described to you and you posted it here 99.9% sure it's a scratchy pot.

You've got a good LCD, rejoice. Anything else is is way easier to address. And glad it came together for you with the limited budget.

Lol yeah but it's fine. I'm so glad I got this thing too, it has the 32mb upgrade too. The last few I've seen went for 250~ so I guess I got lucky. Hopefully the LCD lasts me a min lol. Thanks homie :smoker:
