Is this a good deal???

Hey guys,
Im new to this place but ive been lrkin for some time now, and i could use some help. Im plannin on buyin a used MPC2000XL. I have never ownd an MPC but have used a 500 couple times from a friend of mine. Basically my question is, am i gonna get a good deal here?

This guy is selling his mpc to me for €290. This is about $380. Hes gonna give me:

- MPC2000XL with 32mb RAM os 1.20
- zip drive
- usb zip drive
- zip discs
- usb floppy drive
- floppy discs
- cables

Also, im gonna test it first. Apart from the screen (no lines) and the knobs (workin!) are there some other crucial things i should look out for? €290 is really quite some cash for me and i just want some proper equipment.

sounds like a nice price for europe... you'll probably want to invest in the 8 outputs expansion later on though... i say get it as long as you know what you're getting into and are willing to spend the time to learn the machine.

thanks a lot for the fast reply! That 8 output expansion looks pretty cool! Yea im definetly aware of the learnin curve. Im a guitarist myself and buyn an mpc is buyin a new instrument. So im actually lookin forward to starting over! Ive read somewhere else that you should always get the 2kXL with os 1.72. You dont think that the os 1.20 will be a problem?

It's a decent price, but the 8 outs and the EB16 effects card can cost quite a lot if bought separately, so if you need these factor in another 250-300 EUR on top of that unless someone is selling them cheap.

I've seen fully loaded MPC2000XLs go on ebay for around 350-400 EUR before, so check out ebay for some comparison. The eb16 effects card is not brilliant quality, but convenient if you dpn't want to be dealing with external effects. The 8 outs are needed if you want to track out more than 2 channels at the same time. Otherwise what you describe could suit you fine.

However for another 100 EUR (or less) you can get a second hand MPC1000 which on the whole gives you more features out of the box, with some compromise:

BTW, OS 1.72 is the latest MPC2000 OS, not MPC2000XL (1.2 is the latest)

That is a pretty good deal. Me personally, I have both the 2KXL and 1000... I started out with the 2K Classic sold it for the 1000. But I noticed my workflow was different between the two. I suspect it was mainly due to the slight limitations of the 2000.

After a while, I missed my 2K but hated the fact that it did not support folders... So I started looking into the 2KXL. So after buying an MV8000 to try and get it out of my head, I caved and got a 2KXL. Now I'm happy with all 3.

But to get to the point... Grab the 2KXL, buy and install an internal card reader, sell the extras that came with the mpc, then if it tickles your fancy, buy the 1000. If you get both, don't touch the 1000 until you are familiar with the 2KXL.

That's what I would do and actually about to do. Mine came with internal Zip100 and 21 disks. I bought a zip250 for my computer just to transfer sounds and save my work on the PC until I found a suitable internal CF reader. Which I have ordered so I'm just waiting. And always try to find a card reader that is hot-swappable...its a handy feature. Addonics and Microtech are probably your best bet. Prices range from $27-$300 or more for some reason. The other way to go is with internal PCMCIA . I see them all the time for around $10... only thing is you have to get the right internal SCSI cable. So...yea...

ive been lookin at the mpc1000 wich is i guess on paper the best choice. the thing is though im not quite sure if i need the effects. i like to use just a few effects, and be very good with them. its something i have when im playin guitar as well. Perhaps the mpc 1000 is my next step?

Also ive heard that the 2000 has better pads, so thats a pro too i guess.

Bought mine for $400, with 16mb and a floppy drive. Mines didn't even come with half of that, I say thats not bad.

im going to say it sounds like a bad deal...

for 1 assuming your in the UK somewhere so the euro is alot higher than the US$...

which tells me that he is selling it for dumb cheap over there.

2 it has a zip drive...and for that price im willing to bet it has some "errors reading drive"

this sucks and be full aware that unless you have SCSI and a external source to save and load from your stuck!

i would wait for a more solid deal!

My 2KXxl was 318 shipped. My Roland MV8000 was 285 shipped. Mpc 1000 was 350 shipped. My Juno G was 250 shipped. All perfectly functional. Soooooo...umm... lol
