2000xl CF problems help

I started having problems with my zip drive, and ended up losing a bunch of beats, so I upgraded to cf. I got the Addonics ADIDECF reader and a Sandisk 512mb card (red/blue one). I installed the v1.20 OS before switching, but for some reason my MPC keeps giving me the no floppy disk detected message (I came across this before when I installed the 8 outs a few months ago, and the fix ended up being a bent component on the 8 out board). I also went ahead and adjusted the proper master/ slave settings on the cf reader.

All of this is done while the card is in the drive before powering on, but still the XL reads no floppy detected.

I've done a decent amount of research to find that some of the issues could be problems with cabling, faulty card, or faulty reader. I still feel like there is something else causing this problem... maybe its maybelline.

Yea I checked that too, but the only options it's giving me to choose from are floppy, the 8 scsis, and f-rom. There isn't even an atapi option there, but when I take the cf out and install the zip back in, the mpc has no problem locating the drive. Is the cf supposed to be plug and play for the most part, or is there another setup that I haven't performed yet?

Okay, I tried unplugging/plugging the data/power cables, re-installing the OS, and some other little things here and there to try to get it to locate the cf drive, but the mpc still isn't able to locate it.

I noticed when I plug the power cable to the back of the zip the connector clicks in, but some of the connections with the addonics reader are somewhat loose. I think this may be an issue but not sure, so I might just have to try some new cabling.

Yo, the past couple of days have been a little hectic... but it's back to the mpc thats still giving me the same errors.

I also went ahead a tried different jumper settings, but still got the "no floppy detected" message showing up on the screen.

I finally found another post that went deep into this same problem, and a lot of dudes said they had success with different cards, so I placed an order for one that's most likely to get my xl to read the card/drive. The card is a 1gb sandisk ultra II. I'm going to try that out, and if nothing happens I'll be back here... and if something does happen, I'll be back here. BTW thanks for the help thus far!

Another forum member had the same problem as you're's, it turned out to be a fake sandisk card.

The jumper settings on that particular card reader (besides master/slave) won't do much as it is a passive card reader. The pertinent communication information is inside the Compact Flash card.

Not all SanDisk cards are made the same though, some are made as removable media and some as fixed media. And as logick said there are pirated cards out there too.

There should be a part number printed on the edge of the Compact Flash card near where is says "Made In" which is useful to know when trying to troubleshoot cards.
