Purchasing or Replacing MPC2000XL

I'm considering in purchasing a new 2XL. The one I currently own is breaking down and I'm not tech savvy enough to repair the machine myself. I can't trust every person who's selling on craigslist so what's your method in purchasing a new machine? Is it even possible to get a fully functioning machine? are there any sites that have decently priced fully functional MPC2XLs? Are there any places where I can repair my machine? I feel like there is still so much to learn with this model and I don't want to upgrade yet. an answer to one or all of these questions one be great. thanks.

the best answer is learn to maintain it. if you get a used model, the chances are high it is going to eventually start showing the same issues your current used model does.

sure you can luck out and find an untouched, mint model, but again, eventually you are going to have get in there and repair it yourself.

if you aren't into the upkeep, then dont buy used, outdated gear.

its very similar to owning a classic car - you better be able to do some work on it yourself or you are going to always be paying someone else to do it, and then its still not a new car.

You can buy a used MPC 2000XL off eBay to use as a parts donor for less than what it would cost to send your MPC off to repair.

A lot of people here on the forums have done that and if they get an extra 8-outs, RAM or EB-16 they will sell those on eBay to lower the cost out of their pocket.

The best way to find a fully functional MPC on eBay is to find one with good pictures and ask the seller specific questions about functionality. If the seller can't tell you how much RAM is inside or why there are lost knobs or parts, then you should move onto the next one for sale.

I would love to start but honestly I'm discouraged after I bought a pad sensor and messed up on the trimming. Are there any "Maintain Your MPC2XL for dummies" sites that you recommend? I would search for solutions myself but I wouldn't know where to start.

hunter gives good advice - a cheap machine for parts is a good idea, but again you gotta get up the go-get-em to get in there and goof around.

keep yer head up and understand there will be mistakes as you learn, but i do feel that dealing with an old machine, it is necessary.

otherwise maybe consider a 2500 - you can probably still find one in good shape and they are comparable to a xl - hell even a 1k can do a lot of what an xl can with jj.

Their is nothing wrong copping an Mpc off Craig's List. Just meet at a star bucks bring headphones & some sounds & before you buy it test it out I mean you already know how to use one so you know how things are suppose to function.
