Noise artifacts radomly appearing??

So I'm wondering if anyone here has experienced this problem and knows of a solution. I've done pretty extensive searching and haven't been able to come up with anything.

I'll have a snd file which is recoded properly with no clipping. It will work for a while but after a few times of opening, saving and closing the aps file, noise will start appearing in the clip. It's visible in the trim mode and sounds like a nasty pop or clipping. Anyone have any solutions? It's ruined certain files which I can't replace already and I'd really like to find a way to stop it. Sometimes it fixes the problem if I reload the snd file from another folder but sometimes it doesn't. I'm usink a 2kxl with a CF reader if that helps. Thanks for any suggestions!

this could easily just be bad memory.
open up your mpc, take the memory out, rub the contacts with a pencil eraser, wipe down with a napkin or something to clean them up, then put them back in the machine.

see if that helps.

if not, the next thing i would try would be brand new memory.

Ok I'll try that. But are you talking about the internal memory? like the RAM or the card reader? I'm not sure what I'm looking for

So I took the RAM out. Cleaned the contacts with the eraser, wiped them down. Then I turned on my mpc and tried to load a program file. it gave me an error message that reads DISK REQUIRES NEWER OS. I tried formatting the disk and now it won't even get to the operating system anymore. It reads scsi:0, briefly shows the main window and then spits out a bunch of numbers and letters and won't let me go through any other window.....

I'm supposed to be playing a show on friday and really need to get this resolved. Any ideas? Besides "go smoke a bowl", which is probably my next move anyway.

I took the ram out and put it back it. It seems like it's seated just fine in the slot. When I start it up again it reads scsi:0: for a while then it says insert mpc2000xl disk. The only disk I have is the CF card though. I don't have a scsi drive or floppy.

lamp is probably on to something. removing the memory shouldn't cause any problems other than reducing sample time, maybe it reset some internal setting when you did.

like i mentioned though, your ram could just be straight up bad, in which case you'll need new ram. they are less than $10 / stick.

search for edo simm memory and you should find some. locally, ask around at LOCAL computer businesses, they might have some lying around. you can find it in old computers sometimes too.

I haven't found the STARTUP screen anywhere though. I checked FROM and scsi :0: and tried open window in different spots but I could only find setup and format but I couldn't find ATAPI in those windows either. Does it matter which version I'm running? I'm using the latest OS

i wonder if you are using one of those scsi card readers? that would explain why there is not atapi option.

Yeah I am using the card reader that fits in the floppy drive spot and plugs into the internal scsi 0 port.
