Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By samuelglinglo Thu Sep 19, 2013 4:35 pm
A friend bought a MPC2000XL MCD Blue on eBay and when arrived the pads not give any signal of life. He brought it to me to find a fix, I thought that pad sensors needed to be replaced.
I bought a replacement pad sensors in MPCStuff but to my surprise after installed the pads still not work.

Any idea?, Thanks in advance.

It's hard to help diagnose without more information on what you have tried.
It could be several things causing the issue, but there are a few simple steps to try first.

Are you sure the ribbon cable is firmly and properly seated in the socket?

Have you checked the diagnostics?

Go to the trim menu.
Press Shift + F1
Press F5 to access pad test menu.

There also may be an issue elsewhere on the operation PCB.

Personally, I don't think the new pad sensor is faulty, especially if you are saying that none of the 16 pads are not responding at all.

You should make sure that the socket (conductive metal part that touch to the pad sensor) is clean and making good contact with the pad.
Solering joint(s) on the socket / connector for the pad sensor might be damaged.

Thanks for your quick response.

the curious thing is that MPC looks like new, even inside.

Tomorrow i will inspect the socket but is strange that Pads don't give any signal, looks like pads are totally disconected.

Pads test don't receive any signal and ribbon cable is conected to the socket, anyway, thought it don't was perfectly seated should transmit any signal.

Tomorrow ii will do more tests and post the results.

Found it interesting that you said it was a Blue MCD and had bad sensors.
Based on the age of the MCDs and the typical life of the sensors it seemed unlikely that they should be bad.

Was the unit desribed on eBay as functional?
I'm just wondering why he didn't return it to the seller if the pads didn't work.
