MPC Drum Programming problem

Yo, I don't know what the F is going on with my Xl but before I go into this let me just say that I DID read the manual and I DID search the forum and the internet. The problem I have is that when I press a pad with a snare, every 4 or 5 times I press it , it plays the same snare but with a high ish pitched hiss or just with a lot more volume. It's like every bar it will do that. I'm pretty sure that its a setting in the MP that is doing this (you know the one where you can program in hi hats so that every 4 it will sound like a different hat), but I can't find how to shut it off. I recognize I may be having a derp moment here but I just have no other choice but to make a post about it. Hopefully some one can help, If I'm being an idiot feel free to let me know , I just want to get to the bottom of this.

No it's a malfunction.
Things to try first:

Re install the operating system.
If that doesn't help try taking out the Ram sticks so it is just running on the onboard ram.
Both these suggestions shouldn't cost you anything more than your time so try them first.
If the ram thing does the trick, buy new ram and fit it. (it's really cheap on ebay).
If you still have the same problem after trying both of these ask here for some more suggestions.

this setting doesn't exist on an xl, so that's not it.

im guessing it's bad ram. take the ram out, clean it, put it back in.

it could also be your cables / anything in the chain. hell could be your volume pot.

if you had a recording of it it might help.

but for now the ram check is easy, take it out, clean it, put it back in. see what happens.

Hey, thanks for the reply I appreciate it! anyways I'll definitely try the ram fix. The volume doesn't seem to be a problem as I've messed with all the levels a ton. I've used my 1000 in the setup that my XL is in and it works just fine. However when I used my laptop with my XL the problem disappears. This leads me to believe that it was in fact something in the chain, but again my 1000 works fine in that setup. Because the problem doesn't appear when I use my laptop, I can't send a recording because there would be nothing there . . . this is weird, I'm guessing its just the combination of the XL and my sound system that is causing this.

P.S. just out of curiosity, what will cleaning the ram do in terms of sound/how would a dirty ram card affect it?

I really have none of that, just to be more clear the "hiss" I referred to is more of just a louder version of the snare sample I'm using. It's not really any interference or distortion. Like I was saying though, there is no problem when I'm using it in my line in on my laptop or when I'm using my 1k on the same setup. Thanks everyone for the advice it was much appreciated!

Something like a MIDI "feedback" comes to my mind. The "hiss" is probably a flange that you get when a sound is doubled played.
This could happen when your 1000 and 2000 are MIDIed up together and some settings are wrong (MIDI SOFT THRU)

Another thing that I just thought about is : Do you have the 8out expansion and are the outs connected? Do you have the FX board build in and use it for that snare? I think I once had the same (or similar) behaviour and it was a routing thing in the FX board/mixer

to me this says the problem is with the other gear you are plugging the mpc into when not into the laptop.

I was wrong. I remeber now the problem I had was with the Casio FZ1 sampler. It has 8 outs and a main out and all outs were connected to the mixer I routed a kick sample to out 1. Now when you do that on a FZ1 the kick sample will come out of the out 1 BUT also out of the main out but only every 8th hit so I had a doubled played kick every 8th time the kick was played.

thats interesting, but no I don't have the effects board or the 8 outs nor do I have them both synced, I guess I'll just use the laptop to program drums with then . . . lol

Peterpiper may be on to something.
Sometimes this happens to me on my 2000 classic. If I'm recording a snare the loop will start over again and I will trigger a snare on a spot that I've already recorded one and the resulting sound is louder, distorted, and hissy. Though I will say the sequence never recorded that double triggered snare, it did create a sound similar to what your describing.
I know this is not an answer, but I hope it helps.

Ya I'm still trying to figure it out, I messed with the levels and filters on my kick and snare so I programmed that into there, but my hat is still doing that same thing, plus when I try to layer it, regardless of the problem, the hats just are way inconsistent in sound. Some may be normal and others you can't even hear them. It literally sounds like its a setting or something because it sounds like it's supposed to be happening. Anyways I'm going to try and reinstall the os as well as switch to 1.4 because another thing that's been pissing me off is the slider on the trim page. It wont let me chop samples with the slider and it forces me to use the jog wheel fah dayz. Another update though, I did remove and clean the ram, it didn't seem to work, and I switched the ram out with the ram I got with it, still have the problem.
