MCD KIT! Where to buy a cheap one?!

Hi there guys, I just bought an AKAI MPC 2000XL and it has a Zip drive in it which is not a big problem but I want to buy a cheap mcd kit and was curious if this one would work: m.ebay.com.au/itm/190430604662?nav=WATCHING&sbk=1
Also could you give me some links to mcd kits or can you tell me how I can buy the parts for it so it will be cheap.
1 more question, if I were to have an external Zip drive and connect it to my PC and load sounds into my Zip disk would it work fine on the mpc?

Get this it's cheap an works in the 2000xl, it's not hot swappable.

yeah for the price, and it's hard to find an mcd kit cheap, this does the same job as the mcd, apart from it's not hot swappable, and alot cheaper than the mcd kit.

use a sandisk card with it there most reliable.

No mounting holes in the correct location, so would have to work out drilling your own bolt holes into the card reader chassis, and supplying some sort of mounting bolts.

Power cable needs to be extended, I think, from memory. But if you have an internal Zip drive, it might have a different connector, so might need to have the correct connector at the card reader end soldered on to it.

Might need a custom length IDE cable.

The slower speed SanDisk seem to be a popular choice for a reliable memory card, but look out for fake ones.

Also, yes, an external USB drive on your computer would let you transfer files from your PC to your MPC Zip drive.

Logick if I buy the cf card reader would I have to do some mods to it or just remove the Zip drive and install the cf reader connect the cables and stuff.

you might have to re-drill two holes into the chassis so it sits flush with the front of the mpc.

and change the connection to a mini molex to fit onto the card reader, but it's easy enough done

Hi simon could I have a card reader please I was thinking of buying Zip disks because I didn't want to mod the card reader but if you have one I can use that would be great!

If drilling a CF reader chassis, take the CF reader PCB out first, you don't want metal bits getting in there and shorting out the circuit.

Make sure the reader sits exactly where you want, in relation to the front panel, before drilling.

A vacuum with a hose attachment works great to keep the bits out. Just have friend help while your drilling.

Drill with sheet metal screws. They create a thread. Line up the card reader with the holes that the floppy would mount to, use something to mark the circle where the screws will go. Then take the drive out after you figured where you need to drill.

Then just set the right size of sheet metal screw you need in the drill bit, and drill it in (same way you would send a screw into a piece of wood.

After you drill, as was mentioned you don't want any metal bits left behind. Check it visually, blow out with compressed air, or vacuum
